Mage Tower Bear done

You can definitely beat the fight without timewalking gear. I beat it without timewalking gear pre-nerf (with the exception of running double weapon oil on the legion legendary), you can definitely do so post-nerf as such.

Dying in P1 is purely a skill-fail. P1 is actually very easy for Bear. P2 is the hard part for Bear - our DPS is kind of weak so killing Kruul fast enough can be a problem.

For this point, frenzied regeneration (and in fact, most tank healing abilities) are coded to not generate threat. It’s to avoid huge differences in healing between tank specs leading to awkward threat issues in raids (imagine death strike), as well as prevent certain tanks just trivializing add threat mechanics (paladins would auto-aggro sand adds in council of elders in Throne of Thunder, for example, where other tanks would have to taunt them off healers. You could also consider Kruul’s Nether Horror adds in this).

Regrowth is also inconsistent for healing threat in p2, for not really clear reasons. Regardless, it’s not bad to just hit the horrors, especially now that nether storm has been nerfed.

As an aside, my biggest gripe with the fight is that the infernals attempt to smash if any target is in melee range for them. This includes you (obviously), but also Velen, Kor’vas, and even pets you may summon like a DK’s risen ghoul. This makes it easy to bait their casts if you have them on the edges of the platform, but they’re typically going to end up near the center in any reasonable attempt, and they like to get stuck near Velen (and of course, the orbs) spamming smash in your direction, blocking off any regular path to the healing orbs. And don’t get me started on when they’re walking along casually towards you, then just happen to stumble by an NPC and smash at a barely-predictable moment.

The fight as a whole would be a lot more predictable and less frustrating if infernals were fixed. Or they could accept that smash being a 1-shot mechanic is a really terrible way to make the fight hard and just add walls around the arena, so at least knockbacks are just a huge annoyance instead of a glider/charge or death.

In order on your response

-The eyes in terrain has cause me LoS issues where I’ve been unable to target them so I can’t do anything but look at them when they start the channel

-The demon hunter one means the only way to target it is to tab target, which, depending on other adds can be extremely inconsistent at times to do

-Eyes at the edge of the platform like that tends to happen before the first drain life, otherwise it wouldn’t be a problem

-the ‘they do not’ to Infernal slams: It’s something I’ve had happen, that’s why I listed it as a bug. It shouldn’t happen, but I have experienced it, where I’ve been ‘slammed’ by an infernal on the opposite side of the inquis puddle, pre puddle size nerf, and even from the distance from Velen to the ‘upper left’ netherspawn portal thing

-I’ve had the slams from full size Infernals that have hit me, launch me with varrying velocities, sometimes it’s fast and strait away with only minor lift, other’s I’ve had it basically 45 degree me upward and away at mach 5

-The infernals chain slamming happened in the first few days after launch on quite a few of my attempts but seems to have been fixed an not noted. I was listing it as it was a bug I had encountered

-on the responses about inconsistency: if you are trying to test a players skill at doing mechanics with such small margins of error, wouldn’t you want those mechanics to function in as consistent a manner as possible?

-I’ve never actually had Velen attack the Nether spawn to be honest so, no, he didn’t hit them firts

-Haven’t even logged in since Wed cause I’m so burnt out after 132 attempts at this

-2-3 seconds is not enough time to build up 3 stacks of thrash

-Velen has, thankfully, only walked off the platform once, and it was during the opening roleplay bit, it was like his pathing glitched causing him to try to ‘walk out’ of the instance

-Items that you use and are consumed as a result should have an indicator of where they will be before they ‘spawn’ so you don’t trigger them before you want too, especially with what velens orbs do

-the 2 min despawn timer being intentional feels awkward and like just another mechanic that needs to be tracked with a mental timer ontop of all the other mental timers you are trying to use, there really should be some indicator on which orb was placed first, maybe have it start flashing about 15 seconds before despawn would help, especially when they overlap, or, change them to not expire but to only have 4 on the ground at a time, this would, in effect, do the same thing as the 2 minute timer but not make them so unpredictable on where they will be

-This would make more sense if most of the bear druid damage wasn’t in DoTs requiring more time to ‘go off’ and that we have to be in melee to silence, meaning, we get more stacks of the debuff per interupt than other tanks do, even if we prioritise getting out of it asap

Why are you trying to shame others?

People have a right to complain, especially those people who have done the actual math and proved it’s grossly overtuned, both since the release of it in Legion and since the PTR build of it for this event.

To say, “If I can do it, so can you” while inspiring, but wearing a full set of purples, 2 legendaries, decked out in gems and enchants, when a lot of people can’t afford those luxuries, is just foolish. You know it’s foolish and if it isn’t, fine, put that gear back on and let people have a look at it to see what they should go farm for to have a better chance.

People are trying to do the Mage Tower with just any old gear and it isn’t enough. That’s the problem with it and you know it.

I did mine in BiS Legion gear I had saved in my bank. Not sure if it scales the same as the recommended gear for the challenge but it worked. So if you guys have any old gear you have been hoarding give it a go if you can’t afford buying it.

Got mine last week too.

Oh yes, it was. It is stupidly hard and plan DPS check for bears.

GL doing that in Shadowlands gear. Scaling is trash.

The Mage tower is easy!! I did it on this guy and he is a level 50.

Telling people not to complain isn’t putting them down. As you read just after that, my message was quite positive. I’m sorry you take encouragement to be shameful.

Where is this math?

I’m noticing you don’t have a single or solid basis of comparison. But if you’re expecting this to be a 1:1 recreation of the Legion tower, it’s a literal impossibility.

Dude. I ran Siege of Orgrimar and Nighthold, got all that gear in 4 hours and had my guildie craft me some gems. My set was almost free. Everybody can get the gear for free. How they get the gems and enchants isn’t my concern. Will some people get them free? Yes. Will some people pay market value? Yes. That’s part of the game, as I can see you are aware, based on all of your enchanted and gemmed gear you’re wearing.

You really trying to put me down for actually playing this game and being in a guild? How dare I do old content and know people. I should be ashamed for not just complaining instead.

I’ve already listed my gear in this thread, scroll up. SoO for gear; Nighthold for one trinket, market for the other. Legion artifact weapon and two Legion legendaries. I suppose rather than do it at level 55 with SoO gear, I should have kept my BFA blues on? Or spent an extra 2 weeks to hit 60 and try to farm SL gear instead?

You’re throwing ‘fool’ around quite a bit for someone who clearly has no idea what I had or how I got it despite the fact that I already mentioned it in this thread. Honestly you sound really mad for some reason. Take a deep breath, it’s okay when people succeed where others fail.

Actually it is. People are doing it in all SL gear, pvp gear, TW gear, and random low level gear.

Stating an opinion boldly as if is a fact that can’t be denied, and you’re calling me a fool? You’re a goober.

This is what it was on Legion too, hate to break it to you.

Plenty of people have, check out YouTube for more info on that.

uh yeah… that’s the thing about opinions. They aren’t considered facts.
People can be of the opinion that it’s overtuned and impossible. By the math, it’s very possible.
It’s just tightly tuned. Maybe too tight for some people.
