I see no rifts on my screen and as soon as i use the Cantation of manifestation all the rift spawns come at once and smash you … this not fun …

The spawns will all pop if you do it on the main floor - in the basement if you do it, one will spawn. Next to the chef, 1 will spawn. Upstairs, 2 will spawn. I didn’t see a mana rift either, but I just used the incantation in those locations and it worked.
I didn’t see them either, but went with what CCNA said. Be careful though, other mages can come in and steal your trap (put their trap out before you can). I had this ruin things for me a bit. There was like 3 mages all running around just putting traps down before I could get mine.
I’m having an issue with this quest as well, except I’m able to get 1 mana ghost in the coffer, however after killing 1 (or sometimes 2) the containment coffer doesn’t do anything when the ghosts are stunned, I’ve abandoned the quest and restarted it but still having the issue.

I’m in the horde and I walked to the area by the expert alchemist in undercity. Stood in the middle and used the incantation. It spawned 4 little ghosts. I frost nova’d them and the blizzard. Killed them all. You then have to be quick to collect them with the box. Throw one at each of the spawns.
The quest is working as intended
SPOILER*
enter the blue recluse, stand IN the fireplace near the cook, use scroll or arcane blast. Kill the spawn down to 0 HP, use the trap, then collect the filled trap. Next, go down stairs, use scroll / arcane blast until 2nd mob appears, frost trap and kill 2nd npc and use 2nd trap. Next go to top floor, under the stairs, use scroll, frost nova, move to opposite side of room, kill 3rd quest NPC, collect in trap, turn in quest.
