Got annoyed by the crazy burst of fire mage in pvp, so figured I try it out while waitingfor MoP. Think fire is a viable leveling spec now but frost leveling has always been comfy. What say the forum mages?
most mages i saw leveling where frost i did my little alt as fire but i did i lot of dung
Frost is likely going to be the raiding spec of MoP for at least the first phase so imo just level frost and stay frost.
Fire is good for burst
Arcane is good later on when you can get your Slow ability on your Arcane Blasts.
realistically for leveling they’re all fine if you for whatever reason enjoy ones style more but most efficient is Arcane 100%, perhaps in dungeons fire might be better for the AoE much later in the levels, but arcane is substantially more mobile due to instant casts, and its hard casts are generally pretty quick anyway. Arcane Barrage - Fire blast - Arcane Explosion - Arcane Barrage will kill anything without having to stop moving which feels alot better than the comparitively slow casts of other specs
Fire is more mobile than Arcane, much moreso.
From playing originally, fire was abysmal from 1 to 90 in the last patch. They nerfed quite a lot of base spells (which effects levelling) in order to balance the spec in SoO in addition to the fact that you your stat scaling is terrible meaning you never crit which is awful for a spec that is designed around… critting.
That said, Fire used to be fine for levelling in 5.0, but unfortunately, we are not getting progressive patches. Better off playing Frost or the one button spec
Edit: I meant once Mists of Pandaria comes out. Play what you want now. Fire deals the most damage right now but plays very clunky while frost is still a weird pvp spec in most cases.
Frost especially so because we can only assume that Frost will be in its buffed version.
currently all spec’s preform pretty well in the lvl’ing aspect, arcane may have more insta cast early on but when you get access to be able to scorch an move it becomes a lot easier to handle, Frost give you a pet an able to AoE farm when you get blizzard at 52ish.
Level 30ish right now as fire and it’s been good times so far. I could see it getting a little hairy 80-85 when mobs take longer to kill though. It will probably be ok as long as I keep crit juiced.
