Of all the things they should be focusing on, they focus on this?
Come on. How about if the company put this much energy into making the player experience in the current xpac a good one.

It had to be done. Once the devs removed Swifty and the Kaelthas voice actor from the game, they’d be hypocrites if they didn’t do the same when it concerned a Blizzard dev.
100g says the devs never thought it could happen to them or anyone in their own ranks when they removed Swifty from the game! ![]()
Probably didn’t take up much resources to do. Would have thought there would be a snippet of lore to go with changing the name of an entire zone but no one seems to have found any. Guess the writers must be too busy with more Sylvanas plots.
No no, this was a very quick low-effort kind of thing. I’d rather they put many times as much effort into the game.
Good. “Mac’Aree” was a stupid name to begin with. “Eredath” is infinitely better.
As justified as the lawsuit is and notwithstanfing that many ppl seem to think the new name is better, I detest this. Changing the names of individual characters and sexist references is great, but an entire zone (especially one that has been referenced since TBC and had such a big role in the Legion storyline) is political correctness.
Unfortunately, hindsight makes me think they didn’t have a choice. If they kept the name, ppl who LOVE to complain (justified or not) wouldn’t let them get away with it.
Lore-wise, I suppose it could make sense if the Eredar renamed it after joining the Legion. After all, renaming their former capital after themselves is just the level of arrogance expected from demons.
Very glad majority of people actually love the name change, it’s a proof that changes != bad.
By the way we pronounce Mac’Aree I never associated the name with Mc’cree. But i’m ok with the changes.
Gosh people are still talking about this.
We need to shift focus to something important
Trolls need beards
Golden eyes
Blue tattoos
Amani green color
Wasn’t it shown that both Swifty and the voice actor were the victims of crazy people?
Yep, turned out to be unproven or disproved. But the WoW team set a precedent. I’m guessing that if anyone knows any about precedent, it would be a certain lawyer on the WoW team. lol
so instead they cave, provide precedent for future censoring. This is a name, nothing more and nothing less. Nonsense like this is exactly how a slippery slope begins
This is what jumping to conclusions and humoring the mob will do. It is sad because ruins reputations and lives.
They had the evidence of those chats about the you-know-who suite. If that didn’t exist, there wouldn’t have been any context to that now infamous bro pic.
That was purposeful. One of the writers for Legion admitted that she specifically had the name of the city pronounced very differently from “McCree” because she thought it was tacky that it had been named after someone in the first place. I have no doubts that it was originally supposed to be pronounced with just a slight inflection.
If this is the case, then they definitely shouldn’t have changed the name!
But then, by erasing anything that even hints a link to the lawsuit in-game, Blizzard is ensuring that people are more likely to forget this whole episode after several months.
If the names remain, especially one as big as an entire zone name, then it’s more likely to remain in players’ memories and Blizzard doesn’t want that.
Changing names to take advantage of society’s short memory-span is a time honoured corporate strategy LOL
The first three comments are spot-on. I wouldn’t have noticed for years probably, and now that you’re pointing it out, the name is better anyway
I always pronounced it MACK-a-ree because that’s how it’s spelled.
i wonder what joke they’re gonna put in to replace ‘the mac’areena’…
I don’t care for the reason it was changed but am glad they did change it because the old name has always been totally out of place and stupid sounding.
Of course not.
This opens the floodgates to any kook that finds something in the game offensive to having that thing removed or changed.
I think South Park nailed this problem multiple times over the years.
