M+ and DPS class design discrepancy

No! The only reason Outlaw is topping the charts is because we can turn Blade Flurry into a literal Sweeping Strikes on mobs with less than it’s cap, Mr. Smarty Pants.

But guess what! They’re nerfing that too because a Rogue can’t be good at anything anymore. hic

even if a class is like .02% better than another class in that specific content, people are going to play the better class. idk how you solve this issue, but it’s just the reality.

I’m just saying your argument about hardcaps is nonsense because Outlaw is literally hardcapped at 8 targets and is by far one of the best M+ dps specs while specs like Aff/Destro don’t see diminishing returns until TWENTY targets are in dumpster meme tiers right now.

It has nothing to do with there being a hardcap or not if a spec is good.

This has been corrected since M+ became a thing.

Of community perception that you can only achieve victory with what the top 1% are using.

The thing is, is that logs and leaderboards are available to everyone. If someone sees like 10 warriors in the top 15 of tanks, people are going to assume hey prot warr is good we can play this

Rogues are/have been really good in mythic+ and raiding for a long time so I have no idea what you mean by this.

This is correct…but you cannot play it the way they can.

Yes…certain classes/specs have a higher ceiling and those are the ones we see getting pushed into Meta.

The people who struggle to get into groups…they’re not playing at that level. They’re playing at a level where a hoshposh of a group can clear the content.

Kinda sad and funny isn’t it?

We could have a chart that says the following

  • Warrior 100,000 DPS
  • DH 100,003 DPS
  • Rogue 99,999 DPS
  • Etc.

and folks would be like “Rogues suck this season. No one invite a rogue”. And someone else would say DH are OP and need a nerf.

A toolkit is not just lust and brez. Those classes bring a lot more than just good damage.

WW - CC. Ring of peace. Detox. Physical debuff

Havoc - CC. Darkness. AOE stun. Magic debuff.

Outlaw - LOL rogue toolkit for M+ is ridiculous.

Obviously people want good damage DPS specs. But, many classes can do good damage. The problem is that only a few classes can do good damage AND offer valuable utilities.

Why would you take a spec that only does good damage when you can take a spec who can do good damage AND have valuable utilities?

arcane mage is a prime example of this. People are hesitant to invite arcane mages, because the spec itself is pretty difficult to pull off like the top 1%ers are doing.

but even though it’s in theory one of the best specs in the game, the representation on the leaderboard does not reflect that.

Every class has decent utility.

Damage is what drives the meta. It’s a timer based game that thrives on more damage.

Again, you mention WW and Havoc utility (which are both good/fine) yet a season ago, despite having that same “good/fine” utility they weren’t being picked over destro/survival. Now they are picked, and it’s about damage.

Enhance is a a great mythic+ spec now when a season ago you couldn’t find one for miles. Did they gain sick utility? Or is their damage just high now?

Because → damage

Damage 1st, then utility second.

Also it isn’t as if there are classes with no utility.

Which both the other two monk specs conveniently bring yet are in utter meme territory for keys right now. Yes, it is an extreme situation where both are REALLY bad right now, but even when MW is “good” (I pushed 20s in s4 with minimal issues even playing FLS just to get used to it before the talent system changes) the spec has NEVER seen the widespread usage of Druid, Paladin, or even SHAMAN has seen over the years in keys.

I think MW has almost never been OP. Maybe for like one patch in BFA? I can’t remember exactly.

But, I specifically did not mention tank / healer on purpose. For tanks and healers, there is only 1 spot in the group. So, people usually have to go with whatever is the most OP tank/healer at the moment if they want to push higher keys.

But, DPS spots are more flexible, and I would prefer it if they can become even more flexible than now, which was the point of my post.

For pug keys people want the safest option. No one cares about losing a key if youre running with friends / guildies. It sucks but you move on. When its pugs it just feels bad.

The best M+ toolkit is big uncapped AOE damage and high survivability. There are a bunch of groups at the top of raiderio that don’t even bother with lust. They’d rather bring outlaw, ww, or dh than try to slot in a mage. It’s all about which classes can do the most uncapped AOE and survive one shots.

it’s only a huge part of WOW if you make it that way. I’ll never understand people who feel forced to do M+. Can always do raids or PVP for gear. And the other thousand ways to get gear.
