Luup's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Palm 4-button reduction setup

Hi there, my name is Luup, and I am a woman with tiny, stubby, nubbly fingers. I cannot reach 6 on my keyboard. These are two Brewmaster macros I created to help me press less buttons while tanking.

Chi-Rush
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=8** Rushing Jade Wind, Chi Wave
** the 8 being whatever your haste reduction is. right now thanks to bad great vault options I’m sitting on a silly 16% haste, so when I die at least I’ll die, but faster.

This macro casts jade wind, and if you press it again, it will cast chi wave. If you don’t press it again, it will reset to jade wind once the duration is done, not the cooldown so you’re not clipping.

This is on my 1 slot right now because it is pressed very frequently. Both of these skills cost 0 energy, so it’s a nice GCD to hit when you’re recharging your energy from a big keg smash drain.

Blackout Palm
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=4 Blackout Kick, Tiger Palm

BK doesn’t cooldown faster with haste so this will always be reset 4.
This macro casts blackout kick, and underneath it, tiger palm becomes available until blackout kick comes off cooldown. You need to be careful to not faceroll this macro because it will drain your energy, but it is very nice when you are energy capped and waiting for a cooldown to finish, or you have increased regeneration like Prideful or Lust and you are regenerating faster than your normal rotation.

This is on my 2 slot, with keg smash 3 and Breath of fire 4. I really only need to mash four buttons for the basic rotation, and then hit up them defensives in between. This setup works with both Chen’s and Charred Passions, though with char, you’re gonna be using crane kick a lot more.

Anywho, have fun, kickpunch, be awesome.

That’s good but why do you feel you have to use 1-6 on keyboard. I don’t even have any of those keybound except to my mouse which is 6 buttons all within 2 inches of each other. Also my main attack keys are E,R,W,Q,F,C,V,X. All close together. Those macros are great but just pointing out that there are other options. I couldn’t comfortably reach 5-6 on keyboard either.

I use a logitech G600 gaming mouse for longer cooldowns and trinkets / consumes, and many of the letters as well for utility stuff

Rfghcvb are all bound, as well as f1-4. I don’t like removing any movement keys because I use all of them, including double-mouse click to move, and especially backpedal (backwards kiting to guarantee dodge)

The mention of 6 was just a point of reference.

I have a friend who does his main rotation all on his mouse and I’m a little flabbergasted. Is my thumb not big enough? It always feels like my tiny Trump-hand is slipping around too much. I feel much more comfortable maining my rotation on my left hand / keyboard.

Gotcha, those macros are super helpful, I don’t play brew only WW which seems like it might have a ton more buttons to mash. I wasn’t trying to be condescending sorry if it sounded that way just was pointing out there are plenty of viable keybind options if people are uncomfortable using 1-6. I hope your tiny stubby knubbly fingers have a great day lol

Also yea I use my 6 side mouse buttons plus a shift modifier for each for defensives/ oh S&$T buttons and mouse wheel up/back/center (press) for CC / PVP trinket that I need to be able to cast super quickly. It was very hard to get used to but if you force yourself to learn it eventually it’s second nature

You could check out how rift did macros.

You could have priority macros so if one spell was on cooldown it would just use the next one.

In wow the closest you get is using add-ons like gnome sequencer. You should check it out.

I mean, that’s exactly what it does.

does reset=x not reset unless you haven’t pressed that button in x seconds?

Yes, so the spell on top is your priority spell. So, if you use blackout kick, tiger palm becomes available in the 4 second cooldown window. If you don’t have the extra energy, you dont hit tp and it just goes back to blackout kick.

For chi rush, jade wind is the priority spell, and chi wave with its longer cooldown is hidden underneath it. I have not found any instance where I desperately need to cast chi wave before I cast jade wind.

But to optimize your rotation by taking latency into account you should be spamming your next spell before it comes off cooldown which breaks the reset=x system.

You’re not hitting these macros in a row. You should be weaving them, especially since I run blackout combo.

BKC gives more benefit from rolling kick into key smash, so it should be bk - keg smash - then tiger palm if you have the extra energy from lust. There is no reason to go bk - tp.

As well, with the chi rush macro, like I said above that’s my “completely out of energy” button, so latency gcd doesnt matter because those skills are freebies and allow energy regeneration during a gcd.

Yes but you should be spamming the key for your next ability to prevent downtime due to latency. If you try that with reset=x macros it will not reset.

Bruh. You’re not hitting these keys twice in a row. Also, bartender has a setting that adjusts your input to the down press.

Ok, example:

You have spell 1 and spell 2 – no macros

You hit spell 1 – while the GCD is ticking along you should be hitting the spell 2 key over and over so that as soon as it can go off it does. If you wait for it to come off GCD you loss time to reaction and latency. You should be precasting your abilities.

If you use a reset=x macro for spell 1 and spell 2 you can spam your macro for spell 1 then spell 2 and you need to wait x seconds for spell 1 to come off cooldown but you lose time because of reaction and latency because you can’t precast the macro because it will cause the macro to not reset.

I’m gonna say it a third time, my dude. You’re never, ever hitting these macros twice in a row. You should never be using blackout combo to hit tiger palm. Your issue is not an issue because you dont hit either of these macros twice in succession.

This is a way to reduce overall buttons bound, it is not intended to adjust your rotation. The rotation is exactly the same as if you had 6 buttons bound and not 4.

If you’re that worried about latency clipping, you can set the reset time to be half a second before the high priority spell comes off cooldown, so it’s always ready for you. I have not found this to be an issue in practice.

I’m not saying to hit it twice in a row I’m talking about pre-spamming an ability before it comes off CD.

This setup doesn’t prevent that, and if your latency is so bad, you can set the reset timer a fraction of a second before the high priority spell comes off CD.

You gonna wear out your keyboard, son.

That’s how you do when you’re trying to max out performance. And is why you shouldn’t use castsquence macros in this fashion.

In practice, this is a non-issue. Or maybe I’ve just never encountered this being on the west coast and not having latency issues.

It’s a 4-5% dps loss. Which I think is huge.
