haha yeah, technically you could have pve purps to get rid of your leveling gear. Without pvp gear though you will get smashed as soon as you get near any decent rating though.
Potential solutions:
- Merc mode
- horde vs horde and alliance vs alliance is possible like Arena
- incentives for people to play alliance
Please do something 44 mins for Ab on ab weekend ā¦
Iām not reading all the post but was honor grinding this bad back in original TBC cause I donāt remember it being this bad? As Alliance this is taking so much time to obtain one piece of gear even in a premade that is winning.
On the plus side, everyone is in the same boat of having an unreasonable grind.
On the downside, being a week or two behind is even more punishing, and burst damage is even higher regarded whilst healers are unable to get the resilience to survive.
Overall itās a pretty poor situation to be in either way.
what if the part of the game you have to play to do what you find fun is not fun? genius. nice post to get easy likes. so dumb
Iām like 70 honors into grinding honor at level 70 and I went into TBC with 62k honor banked, so Iām not counting the time I spent at 60 grinding.
I have 8 pieces of gear. Belt, boots, wrists, trinket, helmet, shoulders, and chest.
You can probably add about 30 hours in from level 60 grinding.
100 hours of honor farming for 8 pieces (Iād say 80 hours of that was premading and abusing EoTS honor flags from about 20 of that)
Alliance BTW. Have fun horde.
People knew the queues for horde were terrible in the earlier phases of classic yet somehow there are people here who thought the addition of Blood Elves wouldāve magically made queue times better for horde. Straight up smooth brains.
A significant amount of people didnāt play classic and came to TBC to play with their friends. They bought a boost and picked the faction their friends played. They didnāt have any clue about this until they hit 70.
Have met 0 TBC only players. Iām sure theyāre out there though.
Half my friends list is people who only played TBC. Some of them hit like level 40 in classic then quit, but thatās about it.
That was the whole point of the boost. To get people who skipped out on classic right into the action for TBC.
It worked. Doesnāt seem so dumb from this angle.
I 100% agree, and Iām actually so tired of people who arenāt even queueing BGs, let alone probably didnāt do the honor grind back in the day trying to justify the honor and think its right.
This current honor grind is potentially more time intensive than the rank 14 grind was for any non-Gen1 ranker in Classic, and that was for a set of gear that remained BiS for almost the entire expansion vs this set that is a blue quality starter set.
Any WoW player that has done some sort of really time intensive grind over the history of the game usually has clear memories of that experience and can talk about it in detail to some degree, be it winterspring sabers, rank 14, the Insane title, whatever. The fact that everyoneās memories are so foggy of this with the vast majority of people feeling like the honor rates are way off and it took nowhere near this long back in the day is pretty telling that thereās no chance it was this bad back in the day.
Actually feel so disincentivized to even play this game right now with honor being so bad. I die in every single opener to double dps teams and rogue teams as a healer with how low my resilience is right now, and I have no way to improve the situation without spending every waking moment of my free time for the next 2-3 months purely grinding honor. Just sad man. Contemplating cancelling the sub cause Iām just painted into a corner right now with no way out.
The OP is absolutely correct. These honor gains are just plain disgusting. If youāre an alliance player, losing 90% of the BGs you que into, why would you subject yourself to that frustration for 150-200 honor per half our loss? Itās ridiculous. It wasnāt like this in original BC.
fix queue times or even more alliance will go horde and ques will get worse due to alliance not able to do anything in world

Hereās a clip of a literal Blizzcon winner, at 172 resilience mind you, still dying in a cheap shot kidney vs rogue double dps team. Now imagine youāre a healer hitting 70 to go āokay if I farm for 250 hours I can have enough resilience to still get 1 shot by a double dps team. I only have 200 more hours of BG farming to go before I can try to be competitive.ā
Honor rates currently are actually such garbage. So pathetic.
sounds like you should switch factions then
Let me pay to faction transfer and I will.
The grind is brutal to the degree that if you halved the amount of time it took to grind a full set, it still wouldnāt be ācasualā ā or anything like retail. It would still be a slog. You can farm a full PvE set in about 1/5 the time it takes to gear yourself up in pvp. Some relief is clearly needed here.
TL;DR: it will take you ~5.5 hours per day to farm 5k honor or ~27 days to get the main pieces of PvP gear (excluding weapon, off-pieces, daily PvP turn in) e: as am ally player anyway. If youāre in it for the gear it is more advantageous to just run heroics/kara/raids as it stands right now.
This is a continuation from my previous post about the honor gains being seemingly low or off or the prices for the blue pieces being too high. As stated Iām going off my OG Burning Crusade experience and cannot find information back from 2007. If someone has that information, please share. A video that shows the end report/results would be great. I could be completely wrong.
Alright, I did some mathsā¦ itās been a while since my college math courses, please correct me if Iām wrongā¦ This was done on Alliance and in AV.
It costs 133,555 honor for the full blue PvP set (including the 3 epic pieces available for purchase with honor | excluding the weapon and off pieces [jewlery, cloak, trinkets]). Iām not going into the marks required, just the honor.
Letās go honor farmed per day:
Now letās look at roughly the avg honor farmed per hour. There is some debate here and greatly depends on what BG youāre running (Disclaimer: farming your marks will grant you honor as well, however, typically AV is ran for honor). So I decided to use an addon to record hourly honor gains.
My calculations included waiting for ques and does not include turning in anything that gives honor, just the BG and kills. Since this is such a small sample size this is no way completely accurate and your mileage will vary.
imgur. com/sDSyqbv (apparently canāt include links, just shows the av and 905 honor/hr, fix the space @ .com if you want to see).
Honor gained for 1 hour of AV (approximately 2.5 runs/losses) = 905 honor/hr). This equates to:
-
147.57 hours or 6.14 days of playing to accumulate all the main pieces.
-
Now letās say someone plays 3 hours per dayā¦ that would equate to 49.19 days. Again, there will be days/times 3 hours daily isnāt viable. In fact I know a guy who can play ~7 hours per week. That would equate to a little over 147 days.
A look at farming all main pieces with a desired amount of honor per day would look something like this:
-
5k honor/day = 26.71 total days / roughly 5.52 hours daily.
-
10k honor/day = 13.35 total days / roughly 11.04 hours daily.
-
15k honor/day = 8.9 total days / roughly 16.57 hours daily.
Now bear in mind that this is straight hour/day playtime. Most people donāt have this kind of time to dedicate to farming due to IRL responsibilities so these numbers are likely to be much higher.
It is my conclusion based off these calculations/life responsibilities that it is much more advantageous to raid/run heroics and forego PvP entirely as the time required is simply not worth the reward. My advice goes for both Horde and Alliance players. Or at the very least wait until S1 becomes available for honor purchase.
I love PvP, but when I can run multiple different heroics a day and walk away with much higher chances at epics vs. spend most of my life trying to farm PvP gear, doesnāt seem worth it in the end.
If you really REALLY love PvP, then have at it (seriously, no sarcasm, I love PvP too). It is a lot of fun, but the way this works right now, with how much easier it is to get gear by playing PvE, it is just better to do other things.
e: Fixed some grammar/spelling, added some more info.
Queue times arent the issue, the slow honor grind affects alliance and horde players.
