Clockwork Angels has the most beautiful song…
The Garden
I swear, Niel knew his time was short when he wrote that album.
My husband got me into Rush.
Ok, You made me cry. That was beautiful.

Awe, I’m sorry!
I’m just throwing around jokes. I don’t mean it. I just run with what pops in my head.
“for the joke to work, you need to be that person the joke requires.”
Someone did hurt me. Sumwun often hurts me. pretty much why I’m a Sumone.
C’mon, hug it out.
c’mon.
c’mon.
I’ll take the hug.
I like hugs.
I also like turtles.
Peart respect.
I’m going to go listen to la villa strangiato.
I could listen the the hi hat fill at: 5:31 for an hour
I work out every morning to 2112. It’s my thing. Lol
You want to talk about GOAT…Peart will always have that honor.
yep, first time I saw it had the same reaction. Hit me harder, too, when I realized what instrument was ‘missing’, out of respect for Neil.
ha! That’s great!
Chills, my friend. That gave me chills.
What an amazing thread.
Thank you Stubentiger for starting it.
But if you’re actually lost to time, are you actually waiting?
I am waiting to not wait
It’s 20 minutes and 36 seconds. Perfect for my elliptical workout.
I am not the biggest Rush fan by any means. I’d say I respect their abilities more than I like the brand of music, but man. oddly, both Peart and Robin Williams deaths really bum me out and that stuff usually doesn’t.
I have a friend who’s sick now. I remember he was the largest rush fan I knew. And this kid (at the time) could play just about anything by Rush. I loved playing with him and I look back at those as some of my fondest music memories and one of my favorite band mates.
I’d ask him to play Spirit of Radio constantly so I could watch him play those triplets on the ride.
Not too long ago he posted an small video of him playing some now. It kind of choked me up. I reached out and let him know how overjoyed I was to get to see him play those triples again.
Whoa… where the hell did all that come from?!
the heart
Also this thread needs more Julian Barbour
Those darn memories… they sneak up on us and hit us like a ton of bricks. I get that a lot when I talk about my military service. Still some stuff that I just can’t talk about. But I’m thankful for my memories… even the tough ones. I lived and that’s amazing… especially when I think about everything I’ve seen.
Music is timeless. I have a cousin that plays but his genre is death/heavy metal. I was hanging out one time with him and he started playing Sinatra. I was shocked that he knew and he told me that if you want to be a true musician you had to appreciate the ones who came before.
i typically prefer rhythmically standard or lyrically simple music (most of the time preferring instrumental jazz fusion or synth wave) when I’m lifting, and I watch History of the Universe/World videos if/when I’m doing cardio. But a whole prog rock album, comprised of a rich narrative of tech priests (or whatever it was, have to relisten now!), that’s impressive.
It’s the different tones and intensity of who’s talking that get me. The priests are very condescending and harsh. The one who discovers the guitar is so reasonable and calm. The juxt position is what gets me.
I agree 100%, and not just those that came before you, but those that are making art outside of your preferred genre. Fusion was created from a blend of genres and I think that’s because artist were curious about what the music scene was like in other parts of the world, too.
But, yes, listening to all kinds of music is amazing. Even digging into, say, eastern music theory and rhythms, can be tools western musicians can use in their own music.
Linkin Park for me in that. RIP Chester
I know some ex military. You all come back with some heavy weight, and I feel for that. I’m happy you’re safe, or at least my assumption of your safety comforts me… don’t take it away, lie to me if you are in danger right now. I can’t handle it.
Well said!
I completely agree. I am a first soprano opera singer, but absolutely love my death metal.
My husband used to be in a Rush tribute band, but also did a One Man Genesis show.
Music is whats all around us …we just got to listen for the beat.
