So I’ve been attempting to climb above 1400 on an alt resto druid and its proving to be impossible at just above a 50% winrate. I am losing far more points than gaining. Also confused why there are so many 220 ilvl players in this bracket. Is 1600 officially out of reach without mythic raiding gear? The matches I’m losing I don’t feel I’m losing them because I was outplayed, I’m losing match after match by being globaled by people with 10-20+ ilvls on me since I’m at 198 ilvl. Highest I managed to get to was 1584, and then I lost four matches in a row and was dropped down to around 1450.
This simply isn’t fun.

So if I can’t gain rating, due to losing more points than I gain at a completely average slightly above 50% winrate, in order to upgrade the Sinful pieces I do have, and the base ivl 200 Sinful gear isn’t statistically any better than the 197 honor gear, which I have an entire set of, whats the upgrade path from this point since the 207+ upgrades are buried behind an endless war of 1800+ rivals playing in the 1100-1399 bracket?
Is that is? Get your character max honor gear and then shelve it?
How is this fun? I’m baffled as to why this version of arenas is the most active arenas have been in years. Is it just the mount carrot that is making people participate? Because this is awful.
Whoa, that’s super massive losses. Were you queueing with a very bad player? CR doesn’t matter, but their mmr does.
Basically, if they have hundreds of games at like 11-1200, and you queue with them, you wn’t get much for winning but you stand to lose quite a bit on a loss.
I dont think youre imagining it, some friends and I started fresh 0-0 3s on new characters and went 46-35 and didn’t make it to 1400 losses usually dropped our mmr about 30 points so if we hit a 2-3 game losing streak it tanked our mmr from like 1475 to 1360 making it hard to get back up. I’m pretty sure they changed mmr to keep it artificially low so people arent outgearing end of dungeon m+ rewards. All I know is that in every other season ive played for years your mmr started at 1500 at the begining of the season and theres no way youd be losing rating sub 1400 with a positive win loss. And no im not good at PvP, I usually float around 1800ish, just my thoughts on what ive seen so far this season
win rate irrelevant if your mmr is bad
50/50ing with bad mmr is gonna make losses cost 12-15 and wins worth like 9

Sorry, I meant 1450. I’ve since dropped below that with an above 50% win rate.
Not a lot above 50%, but still above.
The rating seems strange this season. Have managed to mitigate rating losses by staying with consistent players. One guy has been playing with friends in off hours and tanking his MMR / CR - when he rejoins us and we lose it tanks us extra hard.
Yeah I think Blizzard is getting sly with their new carrots.
1400 arenas are filled with 2k+ experienced carries right now. Unless you and both of your teammates are pros with high rated experience I wouldn’t recommend arena to anyone. Just do RBGs for gear for now and hopefully the carries will die down later or you’ll hit a higher bracket where there are less carries.
Really does feel less viable to push rating through lfg this season. Never really had a problem just playing with randoms and getting to 1800 before but it seems like I might have to start actually armory-ing partners to make that happen this time around.
Had to beat multiple teams with 39k-40k HP (no stam buff) on my 194 ilvl shadow priest to get 1400 rating baby
My priest had 30k HP too. Working as intended
mmr does not = CR. If your mmr is higher than the enemy team you are punished more for losses.
Perhaps your partner is lower mmr than you
I did lose like 80 cr from 3 games in 2’s playing with a 1800 guy which isnt that much lower than me…
Solution is not play with people lower sadly.
I feel like you get punished harder for loses this xpac, idk if it’s my imagination but I swear you used to basically not even lose rating till 1400-1500 range, now you can start losing full pts from losses at like 1100. Up 13, down 12

The numbers don’t lie. 50th percentile in 2v2 is 1368 meaning 50% of participants are rated lower than that.
