We literally drained the Artifacts to stabilize the giant gaping wound in Silithus caused by Sargeras’ sword impacting the planet. WHY couldn’t we then use that same Azerite to re-empower those same weapons, even if it meant new traits and talents?
You could easily argue that we’re using Azerite this time versus the Fel energy, so different abilities. The necklace is BORING as hell, and is completely useless other than a McGuffin token to unlock the actual Azerite piece traits. Also, WHY are we not doing world quests/Warfronts in freaking Silithus itself?!
The current Azerite system is simply terrible, moreso when you get a higher item level piece that ends up with worse traits, so you either nerf your abilities or sacrifice your primary stats.
The responses to this topic amuse me a bit since I definitely remember all the pushback against artifact weapons that existed DURING Legion.
I don’t really mind them as a concept but tbh I wish we could just have new spells and passives added with every expansion rather than getting new and (especially in the case of artifacts) really impactful playstyle tools that are just removed by the end of said expac’s lifecycle. It makes enjoying said traits feel pointless and meaningless because you know they won’t last. This Thunder Focus Tea CDR on my Essence Font? Pretty cool, but what’s the point in getting attached to it when in 9.0 I’ll have some new flavor abilities to grind?
I agree. I wasn’t crazy about them at first but I think it was way better than azerite gear.
I think they could have just added the neck to enhance the weapon. Put in a bunch of new mogs for them and let you use the weapon in different specs.
Like in a lot of stories, the heroes weapons become famous. King Arthur wasn’t looking for a better sword.
Miss the artifact weapons also op. Weapon=cool. A necklace? I guess if you a jeweler irl it might be cool lol. Feel bad for the dual wield classes in this xpac. Liked having the blades of the fallen prince for my frost dk, and the kingslayers for my rogue.
It’s as if people forgot all of the rage against never getting to loot weapons, having to grind AP for each spec, hating the netherlight crucible, complaining consistently about relics…
Only complaints about them I saw, or heard was having the ap grind coupled with the rng on relic slots. Imo there would not have been hardly any complaints at all with them, if they would of went with one, or the other instead of having to bother with both. And having 3 relic slots to fool with made it more tedious.
they said not for this expansion, next one is definite though. They said they dont want them to become something that’s expected every single expansion.
I hate all artifacts. I hate the concept. I hate the design. I hate not getting certain pieces of gear out of raids and dungeons and having lots of different armor and weapons looks because of it.
Artifacts are a poor replacement for a new talent system that is sorely needed. AP is a terrible concept for yet another grind added to the game.
You could mog over your artifact in legion to other stuff. Granted due to weapon type limits with mogging we did have limits. But considering the awful rng of weapons and personal loot.
Getting weapons to drop sucks and the heart and azerite gear are pretty horrible.
Personally the artifacts and legos where a far better system then bfas heart or azerite gear.
If it where up to me we would have had an azerite weapon that was fully customizable. With bc style talent trees and an every growing collection of model bits to customize.
The more content you do the more bits and bobs at your disposal to customize your weapon. Think spore but you are creating your own unique weapon from the ground up.
I was sad when I found out that the weapons were going. I mean, I understand how frustrated people were at being unable to be as flexible with mogs. But I personally really enjoyed collecting the skins and the story of the weapon. The campaigns were a lot of fun too. Ah well.
Sadly artifact weapons were the main theme of the expansion at the time. I miss them, I wish they could have held off on it given how BfA has been thus far and like all things previous expansions, they sit in our banks and we’ll look upon them with nostalgia. Along with the legendaries. and Khadgar’s ring. And MoP’s cape.
I need to clean my bank out, its getting cluttered. >.>
When you compare them to the Heart of Azeroth, hell yeah they were the best. Traits were more impactful and interesting and it also provided unique visuals and stories. Azerite is worse than artifact weapons in every way, but I don’t think legion artifacts should’ve continued past legion. We needed a new system. Azerite is just a failure.
I was hoping that, after Legion, we’d get a “build it yourself” artifact. A super awesome weapon that starts out pretty mundane, but over the course of the X-pac grows in power and prestige as we did. Rather than start out with a glorious super weapon, we build it from scratch. Could have a big, multi-level questline associated with it and everything.
Drops could be parts for customizing it, AP to power it up, and various skins to make it all nice and shiny.
Alas, we got a shiny necklace and an AP grind instead.
As I gather artefact and legends suffered from “I can’t have BIS!!!” rants.
Enter azerite. We still don’t get that. Well we do. Like every other armour piece. if lucky.
good armour has your traits (low ilevel). next up much higher ilevel piece, crap traits. next up maybe okay armour. We will get BiS one day. In 8.3.5, pre 9.0 code changes, azerite dead so finally something could be called BiS.
Its like the old joke…she/he is not ms/mr right, just ms/mr right now lol.
Artefacts were also nice for dual wields as at least for DH you got both. If not for mogs my DH’s would look really off. And the stats…odd. It took forever for me to get my dh’s having a weapons close to each other. This char was a sad case of 380 glaive from darkshore and a 340 first from somewhere else for a while.
Cool…so I have a mean left or right hook and the other weapon weak AF.
