Lore Where to start

I’ve played this game off and on since vanilla. I’ve never really payed much attention to the back story or lore. If I wanted to read up and understand the story where would be a god place to start?

If you can afford it, the three WoW Chronicle books are a great place to start. They’ll give you an entire general overview of the history of the universe/world up through the Cataclysm expansion. Tons of info and they’re just great reads too.

Also the site wowpedia is the go to place for lore info. You can look up anything you want there.

Just be aware, as with many long running series and lore, there are retcons.

If you want a relatively good sum up of all the most important, world-wise events, read the 3 chronicles volumes.

Then you can dig deeper with the novels to truly follow the characters and their stories. How they live them rather than cold facts.

A good place to start with novels would be “Warcraft Archive” which includes the first four. They are all around Warcraft time, rather than WoW, but at least “The Last Guardian” and “Lord of the Clans” are good introduction.
