Lore for locked Class/Race combos

It’s hard to rationalize “lore” as a reason to lock some races from some classes whenever I see a Void Elf Holy/Disc priest or a LFD Shadowpriest.

Lightforged Warlocks would be inquisitors, subjugating the lingering Legion forces by making them Lightbound. They’d need ability recolors and separate icons. @Holidaymug and I were discussing it earlier in the thread in more detail, if you’d like to take a look.

Well, the purpose of the thread is not to get all of these combinations put into the game, but to explore ways they might be justified. Much of that justification leans heavily on the first bottleneck (the Cataclysm expansion), so if you didn’t like the Highborne mages reuniting with the Night Elves and the Sunwalkers turning to the Light, you’re not likely to enjoy anything discussed here.

I can’t take credit for the idea; I’ve seen it in several places across the forums, from discussions about Ren’dorei lore in general to discussions about opening up their class options.
The premise builds on the presence of the Netherlight Crucible in the Vindecaar, where both light and shadow energy coexisted within the relics of a single extraordinary weapon. Coupling that with the Void Elves origin, wherein the nether nearly consumed their bodies and transformed them into ethereals, it seems like the most likely ‘magical infusion’ to gain ground with them.

Oddly enough, when the game universe’s equivalent of the big bang is referenced (the spark), Light spreads out across the nether and everywhere it touched the void a streak of Fel was formed. That would seem to suggest that netherlight, the crucible, and every other instance of light touching shadow would create a gout of fel. Would Netherlight Champions cast in purple, or green? Or is it a matter of propaganda, as these are tales handed down through oral tradition. Can light meet shadow and form the arcane instead? These are the sorts of lore spaces that need more in-game clarification.

I agree. Perhaps a new thread for the idea is in order?

Very much or you can try reviving old threads. But I suggest making a new one with community desires of more customization and other freedoms.

Looking over the list again, I’m noticing how frequently Druid, Paladin, and Shaman come up. These are the three base classes with race-specific assets (Demon Hunter has race-specific assets too, but it is a Hero class).

Could it simply be a matter of them not wanting to make new models for the new race options? Would players be willing to have generic forms/mounts/totems on these races? Or… can we come up with ways to make those asset gaps less painful? I tried in the first post, reusing elements that are already in the game. If anybody has any other ideas, I would greatly enjoy discussing them.

I should clarify. Each of these three classes represents a type of religion: Polytheism, Monotheism, and Animism respectively. Only one of the game’s cultures has expressly declared a state religion (Stormwindians), and it is not such a totalitarian state that deviation from that belief would be criminal. So I’m basically asking if developer assets are a bigger hurdle than lore in the case of these three classes.

This is ridiculous
