Looks like the Classic hype train is running out of steam

Because they promised they would remove layering after launch. Has nothing to do with lack of players.

It’s common sense the initial ‘‘hype’’ will die off… if you want to kill the rest of the ‘‘die hard’’ fan base that is driving the classic populations then your ‘‘suggestions’’ would mostly do the trick :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not uncommon for a games to die down after an initial major launch. The same happened with retail and BFA. No one expected Classic to hold those first week numbers for ever. A lot of people were just checking out a game version they never got to play back then or wanted a chance to join in with their favorite streamer.

Removing layering was always the plan. It existed to help smooth out the initial launch. They KNOW server community is ultimately one of the biggest draws of Classic for many people, hence the plan to not keep layering forever, since it splits people up.

I’m surprised they didn’t bother waiting until whatever predetermined date to do it all at once I guess, but in general there’s not really a problem here.

The bigger problem is probably that Blizzard did what they did during Vanilla->Wrath and opened up a bunch of extra servers because numbers were high, instead of just letting people deal with queues and such for a month. Now Classic is in a situation where their population is spread out significantly more than it needs to be, which means individual servers are going to die at a faster rate than they should.

To be clear, I don’t think it’s anywhere near a “dying” state just yet, but it’s something I worried about even the first time I opened up the game and saw how many servers they made BEFORE they started adding extras.

Im not shocked but the fact it didn’t even last 6 months ouch!

The slowdown was always gonna happen. It will stabilize and the communities like on the private servers start forming.

Zero worrys about that happening on my end atleast.

Adding fuel to the fire. Nice.

A “lol” at the end of a sentence makes it a fact.

No it won’t . Maybe the server he is on might but over all it won’t and even then he will probably do what most are doing and playing both versions.

People are going to go back and forth depending on content releases for both .
Classic is only in it’s first phase and there are going to be 6 phases over all . By the time everything is out retail will most likely have the final BfA patch released , the 9.0 prepatch for the next expansion and possibly the next expansion itself out. Most likely Blizz will alternate Classic phase drops and retail patch drops.

But this was an anti classic thread . So you really can’t blame the classic crowd.

bfa is still unplayable freemium steaming pile though

100% agree. Remember though leading up to classic and after the release GD heard LOLOLOL retail iz ded!!!1. Now granted its just a few people.

Do you have to pay to do raids, go to zones, or refill energy (that doesnt exist). Then it isnt freminum.

I think they want people going in the other direction.

The hype train started losing steam almost immediately. It didn’t take very long for players to start rushing back to retail.

We live in a world full of statements without facts.

…why would Blizzard do this literally ever?

Say what you will about how good vanilla was, Retail still has top billing, and will have it until the end of the game’s life. There is no video game company in history that has built a sustainable model off of re-releasing old video games with a design philosophy of making no graphical or gameplay improvements to it whatsoever. They are a flash of nostalgia in the pan, then they’re done. Blizzard may take some lessons from classic to push Retail in a better direction, but classic itself is not going to be a long-term moneymaker

I mean it is a fact. A ton of people were, and amazingly still are, saying Classic was/is DoA.

Also, lol.

If you think this comment is rough you should go spend a few mins looking over at the classic forum. It’s like the wild west with no sheriff in town. I don’t know how Blizzard can even pretend there is any moderation over there.

Nervous “lol”.
