Looking to level as a warrior that can tank and do damage out in the world

Need help with builds as my highest warrior in actual vanilla was 15.

I had these three saved just randomly on my pc from elsewhere, and I am not sure how good they are,

I think this might be an endgame fury tank build, or maybe a leveling build, not sure.

This looks like the 31/5/15 build every warrior has on private servers.

I guess this is pure dps.

What build should I go with, assuming one of those are functional.

Most likely will be leveling with others. I am trying to find people to do that with now.

Here’s a nice guide for you https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1HyCiVeKMS9MDOHxEHyDH38i0q2kJD-3qjSMxFjTZk8k/edit#slide=id.g4540852442_810_22

Useful, but it only covers dps and soloing. What about for tanking dungons? Just don’t bother with the prot tree?

You really don’t until like 55+, even then, top specs are mostly fury with some prot

vanilla was a good game because you could use any spec in any situation, especially early on. most of the warrior tanks I remember used a dps build all the way till around 45 ish, pallies have to spec into prot and some holy to get a good threat build, and bears already had a dps tree to spec into.

as long as you have a shield you should be fine for tanking all the way to 45, once you notice that you’re starting to take a lot more damage you can respec and do down your prot tree.

Prot is actually not very good until much higher, as the threat you put out in a DPS spec (especially the 5% crit from Cruelty) is much more valuable than being slightly more durable - and I do mean slightly. Plus if you do have to solo it makes your life so much easier.

A Fury (or Arms, if that’s your goal) spec’d Warrior can tank every dungeon until very high (even potentially endgame dungeons when you get gear) with ease, just as any hybrid can heal with ease so long as they have some Int gear.

As for tanking itself, it’s not actually that hard. Thunder Clap debuff is great (when you have the rage for it), Sunder is great threat on single target (or tab Sunder for AoE threat), and Demoralizing Shout is also great threat and also a debuff for your own survivability.

So is thunder clap just for threat here? Guide above does not recommend getting past rank 1

What a cool guy and very helpful as well uplifting.

Thunderclap is really just a utility ability. You should be using Sunder Armor and Heroic Strike as your primary threat generators.

I’m levelling a ‘prot’ warrior with the wife who has a holy pally. I want to do the prot thing all the way through and tank dungeons, etc, but I’m going to start my ‘prot’ build in Arms and pick up:

5 in parry
5 in tactical mastery
1 in that one that gives you rage regen…

……before heading over to prot and starting down there. I figure it will cost me a little in dps but I am also hoping that:

a) with increased survivability and all-round turtleness, the wife can press some extra buttons while we quest, rather than just the healing ones.
b) it will make life easier in dungeons where I am trying to make life easier, for the wife!

Each to their own though, if one was adventuring solo I could see a better reason to spec arms and just carry a shield for your tanking. If you tried my spec (solo), you could get down around overpower and stuff in the arms tree and still have all 11 points (as above) that work for you in both 2-handed questing as well as sword-shield tanking in dungeons.

Just some ideas to mull over, but I think there’s a lot of personal preference in it

Have fun levelling a prot warrior man. And remember, once you’ve had gnome, you never go home

Top 5 of what you need to tank basically anything up til about lvl58, as a Warrior:

  1. 1H weapon
  2. Shield
  3. Defensive Stance (do the quest at lvl10)
  4. Taunt
  5. Sunder Armor

Spec doesn’t matter, especially @1.12 values.
