Hey Guys,
Just fired up a DK for the first time ever after a little break and while I find Frost specifically to be super fun I’m struggling to win games. only like 1600-1800 RSS range but I feel like I’m working my tail off to make wins happen. Gear is fine I have the two piece and the weapon so that shouldn’t be holding me back too much.
Some of my collective thoughts/struggles.
-
Keep messing around with the build. Frostwyrm kinda… sucks? I feel like those two points arent worth it when the damage it puts out being nerfed in PvP is useless. Setting it up is easy enough with the lower bracket not really caring to stop me but it really just feels underwhelming.
-
Chill Streak also underwhelming. This could just be me but I’ll go back in recount after games and even lining it up with Frostwyrm, melee stacked zerging, etc it really hasn’t done anything.

Tried a build gutting Frostwyrm and chill streak to use Icebreaker/enduring strength/icecap which definitely helped with overall output. Actually felt better to play with those talents despite the fact it feels like you hit four buttons all game for damage.
More or less just curious for what people’s general strategies are and how they are typically landing kills to win games. I’m definitely able to get a ton of pressure out every 45 secs - a minute with some cross CC if I have any, just struggling to actually cut through. feels like I’m working 110% chasing everyone’s DPS all game to keep pressure out.
Any help is appreciated!
Scott

the best way to play frost rn is to do /logout
from there you go to create character
and once you’re there you want to look for the icon that looks like a sword, its called a warrior. from there select the arms specilization once you reach level 10. It has an axe icon.
This actually solves all of the points you listed there. All of arm’s talents are good. And they SHOULD be good because they got a lot of dev time. Frost dk…err… not so much as you can see.
In terms of dmg, every button you press pumps and you will find that just by pressing them people will die even if ur not using your main CD like frost. By playing arms, you’ll get an authentic experience for a plate wearing class.
But real talk, winning games as frost is about maximizing your burst window and getting better at your setups. You also want to bring the healer into each of your goes and line up your cc so that theres no gap. (stun to strang for ex). Then you can delete healthbars. If someone on the other team has a disarm, it’s ggs tho.

Don’t forget, just 1 trinket from a target with a mobility there goes your cleave pressure
.
But back to the OP, frost is in a terrible state right now. I feel you there on working hard to get wins. I’m by no means a glad player, but I got my ele, and WW monk to 1900 just chilling tbh. Frost I sweat my às s off in those matches and I can’t break 1800. Your best bet IMO, to get damage off is strictly focusing on obliteration cleaves. FwF is a wet noodle that hits for 20k, chill streak isn’t great either. They’re not worth the globals on missing out on damage from obliterates you already have to spend a lot and have a short window of time within their stun. That’s if they’re both not on DR, and if neither trinket. Like the guy ahead of me said, you’re better just playing arms. It outclasses frost in every capacity. And I feel your pain, I love the spec thematically and what it could be. But I’ve given up on frost personally. It needs a ret level rework of everything about it. pve it does well, you’re basically forced into breath builds for the most output. And personally I hate breath. Never been fun to me. As for pvp? Your defensives are gutted, death strike is a joke a minute into the match especially if you have a mortal strike on you which you probably will because nearly every class has one by now. It needs a complete rework but devs think 20% cost increases for resources on frost strike for a 10% damage boost is perfect

For PvE it is
For PvP its an absolute joke of a change. Damage no joke needs to be 40-60% stronger than it is rn as a baseline
Shattering blade needs to be what gets adjusted when it comes to preventing broken level froststrikes, Not the core ability
The core ability should not be as weak as it is rn, It might seem small, but 25 runic power in pvp is a LOT because of how fast things happen, using just 1 froststrike can often times prevent you from using a 2nd deathstrike, that can mean death at certain moments in a match by itself so why is the risk of using froststrike not even worth the reward?
Ah yes let me potentially kill myself into melee who hit much harder than me, by using my damage filler instead of my self heal only to hit for 18k damage

A change of mindset sometimes is all it takes and looking at abilities differently. FwF is effectively an AoE stun on a 1.5m cd which next tier with the tier set is going to get a little bit better from the 2pc with it reducing its CD. Instead of trying to use it as damage use it as an aoe stun.
2 people being in a stun if you can land it and they have no trinket will be benefitial. If not to get a kill at least to act like a reset of sorts.
unholy is a better bet for the average player trying to get into pvp on a dk, it always has been except for legion where we saw a unique boost in frosts ability to delete players quick, personally i consider that a one off and we’ll prob never see frost that powerful in pvp again… trust me i’d love to be wrong but this company has some bad habits that seem to refuse to die.
