To be fair, probably was best to wait that long to try an MMO. Ever quest looked awesome but the era of Dial up internet was a nightmare if you didnt have an extra number in your household. Was the youngest of 3 siblings who liked to RP on anime chats or play a variant of mad libs but always got DC’d alot since said siblings kept hogging the phone ._. Silver lining was I did have a playstation to kill time on since other sibling also hogged the PC.
One of two things about FFXIV always makes me leave the game.
One is its awful banking system, with items on different tabs made worse when you purchase retainers (with real money, as you know, just saying this for people who haven’t played it) which is a nightmare for crafters. In WoW, you can deposit crafting materials into the bank with one click and don’t have to take crafting materials out of the bank to craft.
The other is that the main storyline is very linear after Heavensward and is incessantly gated by having to complete a dungeon or even a raid, whether you feel like it or not. By the time I got to Stormblood, I just got tired of it and quit and never got to Shadowbringers, although I own it.
So I think WoW is probably better suited if you are also taking care of a baby. If you aren’t enjoying what you’re doing, you can go to another area. You can do that in FFXIV somewhat by leveling up another class but just makes your inventory woes much worse unless you plan carefully and use the same gear you already have.
To bad that experience is long lost. They dumbed that game down hardcore to keep up with the WoW generation of gamers. You want to get it now days you need to roll on the private server Project 1999. I loved EQ in all its tedious glory, but it is a shadow of its former self now.
The reason you don’t mind WoW fetch quests goes hand in hand with WoW’s combat. It has the tightest, best flowing combat in a tab target MMORPG hands down. Nothing comes close.
One of my biggest gripes with wow is the flying system OP. It’s not that I’m against it, it’s just that every expansion they design zones for flying, but don’t release flying until like a year later so you literally suffer through until flying releases.
I can totally see why it would irk a new player, who just finally is able to purchase fkyingz then hours later it’s taken away again. Heavily flawed system that somehow had 0 forethought put into when redesigning the leveling experience. Makes no sense to me how something like that could be overlooked
I totally agree. I was feeling happy then sad not too long after, when realizing that I couldnt fly in bfa directly. It make me feel like a child who was given a candy then unwrap it, only for the giver to snatch it from my hand to eat it.
on the other hand…
I can believe the amount of people commenting as a measuring contest because I wrote the word “long time MMO player”. I only said it so that people dont just reply trolling to me “rolfmaololol iz diz yur fairst mmo??? lololol”. Ok, I’m not as old as some of you guys and certainly not living in US making some of the experience impossible to obtain, but why waste YOUR time to comment on my thread just to show that your experience is superior than me?
I was going to not respond anymore because it’s been a while since I came into a forum that is a bit negative in the responses. Probably years ago at gamefaqs during the “console war” between Xbox 360 vs PS3.
I regret having typed the above but cant be bothered to filter or delete some sentences. So to make things a bit sweeter, I’d like to thank those who welcomed me, and sending positive replies. I am happy to hear that and I hope I can meet up w/ some of you guys too in game.
I will never, ever understand people’s dislike for WoW’s graphics. Sure, the old areas look dated but recent expansions hold up with modern games imo. Blizzard have dropped the ball in many places over the years but art direction has always been top tier.
