Surveys are developed to answer specific questions, which may not be very closely aligned with what anyone here wants them to hear. That’s why so often surveys are multiple choice and only rarely give an option to write a paragraph.
There’s nothing wrong with a survey in principle. What’s wrong is that they failed to do marketing research to find what their customers wanted or were willing to pay for, and never did actual exit surveys when people left to find out why they were unsubbing.
They owe this to their investors. It has to do with responsible management practices.
That 255 character text box was worse than a joke. The data could not have been categorized meaningfully.
At this point, a survey is very much needed. No need to hate on this tactical move. Hopefully, they will get a pulse on the what the community wants and make adjustments so they can retain subs.
Blizzard Entertainment is constantly listening to its players to improve our games. We would like to hear about some of your video game experiences.
Please take this quick survey which should only take about 10 minutes. We value your feedback in helping us understand our players better.
[Take the Survey]As a reminder, our surveys will never ask for your email address or password.
Now is your chance to help us make a better game. Thank you!
Always care about WOW only blizzard game I play. Just because im quitting does not mean im never wanting to play again im just waiting for em to get it together before I come back… For all those people with attitudes like why do u care ur leaving all I can say is sometimes its worth subbing for awhile specially in the state games in now less subs means less money in they wallets meaning they wake up and improve them self… more people leave like what is happening the quicker they stop and think and do something to improve. Anyone who saids they never be back is kidding them selfs we all just waiting on improvements.
Also, winter has brought with it some time off, some other plans that I thought would keep me busy have been postponed for about a year, etc. etc. etc…
Long and the short of it is, I’ve got time to be here for the foreseeable future!
I think that’s one thing Blizzard relies on. Players leave, but they get the itch, they fall for the hype and belief that things have changed. But, at the end of the day, the things that DO need to change are not changed. Or if they are changed, they’re made worse.
At the same time…thats basically the MMORPG model. That is one reason why 100% of MMOs have stopped reporting subs.
Even the FFXIV guy made a remark somewhat recently, how 3-4 months is how long it typically takes for many people to start unsubbing…and then they return for the next content patch to start the cycle again.
I am just talking about in general. Not WoW specifically, so please don’t read anything into this concerning changes being made/not made, etc.
Some people have claimed you have to opt in to the surveys by turning on ‘Receive News and Special Offers from Blizzard Entertainment’ in account settings. I’m not sure if this is true but it might be why some of us have not gotten anything. It might also be worth it to request one from customer support.
Oh, I agree that the idea of surveys is a great thing.
The problem is, they’ve built a reputation.
And not just that but … this was the first place I heard about it. You’d think if they really wanted to make players as a whole feel like they’re listening they would have put up a big blog saying “hey, over the next few weeks a good number of players will be receiving surveys. We really need them completed because we know there are complaints and we want to address them.”
They could have made people Aware of what is coming up for a good number of players. So it has me rather skeptical that they’re going to do anything with the data besides use it as a “feel good” technique.
Maybe I’ll be proven wrong. And I’d love to be proven wrong. I want to see Blizzard return to the days when soon™ was a mark of PRIDE. Where their QA department was not a bloody joke. When they honestly cared about the quality of the game.
I want to see those days return.
But they’ve got a lot of work for me to believe that is going to happen.
Because the forums aren’t always completely accurate. Maybe they want to talk to people who are actually quitting. Not people who just claim they are.
Maybe they want some specific opinions of people who have unsubbed/have their accounts running out, and they want to look at the opinions of the people who are actually quitting. Not just the people saying that they are. And not everyone reads the forums. But everyone has an email address.
