How anyone earns less than 150k/year these days never ceases to amaze me. Guess school was just too hard.

is it because you make 15 an hour? you know if they raised minimum wage to 15(they wont) your job would have to raise your wage too to compete

So? Minimum wage is supposed to allow those “unskilled” workers to make a living wage. $7.50 an hour is in no way a living wage.

the ones already making $20 currently might want a raise too since they do a more difficult job than the ones making $12 is the problem…
If you look at even just Apartment pricing in Austin, nope. Good luck finding anything under 1k that’s not ‘per person’ or ‘per bedroom’ IE sharing with 2-3 people. Just shows that minimum wage is not a livable wage in the first place, curious that!
Most people in ‘skilled jobs’ couldn’t actually live off of the amount ‘unskilled jobs’ get paid and would quit after a week or two in the first place. Most ‘skilled jobs’ are just from certs/degrees that have a cost requirement to get in anyways and then getting hired can be more social circle based than skill based.

When the minimum wage was established, it legally HAD to pay a living wage, because the masses were being literally worked to death.
How does someone live off that? Thats insane.

I was making 21.50 working in a gas station… 20 years ago. America is messed up and you should not be proud of your broken system. A person should be able to make a living wage from an unskilled job. Not everyone can be a doctor there is always a need unskilled jobs. more so than skilled jobs.
