Locking stable flying but not skyriding to pathfinder is stupid

Agreed, sometimes I like an area not for the quests but for the looks and atmosphere, like 2 of my favorite areas are Grizzly Hills (Wrath) and Azure Span (DF), hated Vasj’ir though, at some point I was doing that one first just to have it over and done with.

Grizzly Hills had some of the best vibes, I remember my first journey through Northrend. I remember getting through howling fjord, wanting to be up the cliffs so badly. Desperately avoiding Boring Tundra with it’s patchwork quilt of quest hubs and boring looking terrain.

Still remember the journey into Dragonblight. I think I did it all first on my Mage to get access to portals and whatnot. I remember being 74 and making that push to 75 to get to Dalaran on my own. Was a crazy open world and every minute of it was really something memorable. Finding Hemet Nesingwary in a tree out in the Basin. Helping him put together a flying machine and restore flight service. I miss those sorts of quests that really don’t mean anything in the universe but really execute on the idea of a quest… without being some kill or fetch thing.

The fact games still attempt to build that leveling experience (why even level at this point?) around such a questing experience, in 2024, clear sign dev studios need to stop copying each other and get back to basics with standards and best practices.

The only one that has been replying to him has been me, and that is not usually my thing to do. I will say though, you seem to like to try and shut us down, making some of us feel like, what was your phrase…ah yeah, second class citizens,

If what is good for the goose is good for the gander, then you have ZERO right to complain about being treated as a second class citizen as long as you treat others the same.

TWW starts next week. Someone needs to come to their senses and it’s not blizzard.

There is nothing to be said on their part. They already said why, how and when on the topic long ago. They put forth what will be the released version of Pathfinder come Thursday for those who have early access. Its been tested and it works just fine in Beta and is really very simple this time around to complete. It covers what Blizzard stated was their goal was to use it for TWW. All is good to go.

You are never going to make every single customer happy and there is no use in even trying at a point. This happens to be one of them. You roll the dice and let the numbers fall where they may. Then you deal with the results later down the road.

People who play WoW need to learn, no one deserves a response from the Dev’s every time they get mad. The Dev’s don’t have that much time to deal with every single issue people have or claim to have demanding attention.

It feels like arguing for the sake of arguing. Forum PvP. Once they said pathfinder has nothing to do with Steady Flight, I knew I was completely wasting my time. Completing PF is the only way to get Steady Flight, the two are completely tied to each other. That’s a fact jack.

Luckily Blizzard didn’t ignore us, This PF is the easiest and fastest to complete than past ones.

I tied that to the “Time Played” metric. Content droughts are bad for subscription levels. They want grinds to slow consumption and extend subscriptions

and yet everyone still moan and complaint about it.

Yes, it appears some customers really dislike it and are giving Blizzard their feedback.

Unfortunately, content droughts only exist when your moment to moment gameplay isn’t good to begin with. If I create a game where you go and do chores for 2 hours, go do a raid for 3, and after 6 hours of game play, you were only tasked with the mundanity of ‘Kill a bunch of stuff, loot, repeat…’ That’s a pretty shallow gameplay loop.

Can only be fun, for so long, before ‘killing stuff’ needs extra game play. Like… Killing stuff… with a Horadric Hamburger Or, Killing stuff, but this time it’s Cows.

Unfortunately, the ‘story’ can only do so much to carry a game, new content can only be appealing for as long as you let players access it, and when your game development model telegraphs everything you’re doing?

Players gonna see the lipstick pig, realize it was just a pig this whole time, and go looking for a farm with Alpacas. I promise you players would replay fun content, ad nasuem. They do it in… other games.

Old School Rune Scape sets the standards here. You don’t need an entirely new game developed every 2 years to get people interested in subbing. You just need to have something they deem fun, and you need to let them enjoy it.

Which means… something new can’t come along to displace it. Or a content drought will be the next problem you have. You displaced everyone’s fun time with a… ‘less fun’ time, and now they’ve done all 3 of the disparate activities you scrapped the bottom of the development room floor to cram into a game that didn’t need it.

Players then remember the more fun they had prior to whatever nonsense was just released, and then they unsub. It’s classic skinner box rejection.

This sounds like rationing medications or food during an emergency. This doesn’t sound like playing a video game to me.

Bro, I don’t play the game for mogs and mounts. I play the game because it’s fun to engage with other people in multiplayer activities.

Mogs and mounts dispensed like Skinner Box rewards to get me to participate in a temporary event that should have never been a thing to begin with… I have enjoyable things to do in wow that don’t require me to subject myself to that nonsense.

This character was a DK I made on classic to have an alt and avoid 55 levels of pain to get it. Turns out, there was an achievement for completing the Dk starting zone on Classic when Wotlk was first out, they rewarded you with a special FOMO mount that is no longer obtainable… cuz why would you let people continue to acquire something in a video game?

That’s not fun!

I mean, I don’t use the mount, when I found out it was a reward for what I did I was honestly like ‘yeah, sounds like Blizzard’ and went back to just enjoying the fun I have to create for myself out of the slop Blizzard has haphazardly assembled here.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem. You want players to engage with your game. Players love engaging with things that are… fun. They do it ad naseum, if time allows. There is a guy playing Mario Kart 7 on 3ds, as the sole player on the entire Nintendo network, refusing to logoff because if they do, the servers are officially offline forever.

That’s the gravity of these sorts of development choices. Nintendo shutting down online support for an entire console generation, because it no longer generates profit without competing against their own, newer products, despite people actually doing the thing it was created for in the first place (have a fun time!).

Video games are a business, but that business depends on you being able to make something fun, that way there is justification for anyone to buy it. Because again, games are fun. They are meant and solely designed around this concept.

No one designs a game thinking ‘I want to have the opposite of fun (I mean, until you work at Blizzard, I suppose)’ and then proceeds to spend 20 years on a single title, systematically removing the fun every so often.

I mean, no one who wants to create a fun game, at least.

As a kid, going to Disneyland is this crazy place and everywhere you look there’s something magical or fun to do.

As an adult, going to disneyland is this crazy place and everywhere you look is a completely manufactured experience designed to get you to buy something as a souvenir (Walt Disney Deep Dive Inc) to pad Daddy Disney’s bottom line.

It wasn’t about having some quality merch from the House of Mouse (a lot of it still is pretty basic stuff with that Pig Lipstick approach) to celebrate the fun time you had. Some of that stuff didn’t even survive the trip out of the park.

And Disney, from the moment you step foot in their park, is making sure you are having exactly the kind of fun THEY want you to have. If you try to have your own fun? You will be removed. And probably sued/prosecuted.

That’s the World of Warcraft vibe I get, since Cata. Blizzard is trying to engineer the warcraft experience they want us to have, and the goal is to increase revenue, always.

Sad part is they could just HiFi Rush (make great games that are just fun) and Not HellDivers 2 (ruin good games with profit-motives and poor decisions).
