As a software engineer I think it’s a wash. Windows with the right config can beat the pants off of linux any day of the week. HPC windows showed this… But that’s not something you’re going to find every day. Linux is just now catching up to windowsNTKERNEL in terms of async IO and move free IO… which is just mind shattering. The fact that NTKERNEL has has that sort of thing from the 1.0 stage is what’s amazing and what makes me have so much respect for Dave Cutler.
Honestly I’d love to see a very stripped down minwin that resembles arch linux or gentoo. Basically just Kernel32 and a bit more if you install it. Then rebuild an ‘OS’ on top of that.
