I’m less doom and gloom with the direction, though I’m not naive enough to completely give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt. I do think there’s a happy medium to be hit between what’s working now and where the game is heading. The class changes are probably being examined a little too much in a vacuum with less thought about as a whole with how the game is also changing from a fundamental stand point.
With combat addons being purged, a lot of that mental load will be shifted to the players in the moment to moment gameplay. Small things like merging 2 buttons into 1 or morphing one spell into another during a proc will be things that help ease tension and free up the mind to respond to the gameplay and watch hotbars less. I do think they pushed a little far in some cases, Demonology definitely going too simple, but overall I think when viewing the game direction as a whole it’s definitely a good thing. Though if baseline content isn’t brought up in difficulty a smidge to go a long with this, it very well could lead to everything feeling rather drab.
Maybe people would prefer simple encounters but a more busy class design rather than the vice versa direction we’re going, I have no clue what is better. I definitely prefer the way we’re heading though. Especially as someone who prefers to play the game without addons.
