Blizzard can change the API available to addons to prevent it from functioning.
In this case, I think the easiest and most appropriate fix would be to remove the ability of addons to issue group invites. It could still function as a way to parse chat and let people using the addon see who’s looking for a group, but then you’d have to talk to them and/or invite them yourself.
You do realize that LFG removed the social interaction of the game and promoted solo play. It caused you to stop forming friendships, to stop caring about Guilds because you don’t need them anymore. This is why it ruined Retail. You can automate your experience and nothing is needed then socially from an MMO. They we wonder why Retail died years ago and became unplayable…
People will also manually post in chat. But if people think its spam, inc RCR.
The addon. It wasn’t designed to be an inconvenience else no one would ever download it. You do realize this right? Of course people want to clean up the group forming. That is literally the whole point of the addon.
And I’ve also not responded to people who give me stupid tells for the group. I don’t have to be cordial and nice, and I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but people are mean online!
Not really, they would have to remove the chat parsing functionality, which would kill a WHOLE lot of addons. LFG would have made it’s way into vanilla anyways. Get over it.
I do think LFG addon won’t ruin it mainly because the LFG system we have on retail come with teleport AND cross realm. You just group up with random that you will never see again.
This addon simply giving us a way to search/form group a bit easier and can help building community. Bet if they named it anything else than “LFG” and y’all would love it.
Some people do give reasons which can stimulate interaction. You may be straight to the point, many people aren’t. This addon removes the need for that interaction.
Blizzard draws the line on automation sure, but what about LFG tools in Classic? Lets say they say this one is ok. What about a tool that’s more akin to what we have in retail? At what point do we stop pushing this away from an as close to authentic Vanilla experience as possible? Also, this addon has an auto group invite in the custom group finder, which is automation.
We were talking to the dev who made the addon in the other thread. We know exactly how it works.
The interaction isn’t NEEDED anyways. Again, I can ignore people who I don’t want to invite.
We? We don’t get to decide I’m sorry to say. Blizzard does. They drew the line and so far this is okay. Not you, not me.
Restating it, auto invite could be considered automation absolutely. And even if that feature is removed, I still feel you wouldn’t be satisfied.
Whose we? Do you have a turd in your pocket. These are all things about YOU, not a group. You speak for one.
I would use this as a tank or healer (or dps), pretty much anyone interested in forming groups easier would use it. I’ve made alot of groups back in the day, I would use it on any toon of mine.
Which is a very retail mindset. You aren’t wrong, but Classic is aiming to be more community oriented as that was the Vanilla experience. “People are mean online” is no reason to limit social interaction due to an addon being more convenient to use and abuse based on it’s design.
We obviously aren’t going to see eye to eye on this and that’s fine. You value the convenience that this offers which I can’t begrudge you. But I personally find the risks this poses to offset the benefits and take away from a more authentic Vanilla experience. In any case, Blizzard will make the ultimate decision on whether to allow this addon or not.
Take off the Rose Tinted Glasses for real! Do you think everyone is going to be super polite and nice because we’re playing Classic? You have a world of disappointment coming your way my friend.
Edit : This is a game that I want to play. If I want a social interaction I’ll go talk to my friends IRL, or go outside.
Better option: You actually read the post, instead of clipping it to pretend that I didn’t already tell you how to fix it without removing chat parsing functionality from addons.
All the people in the thread I referenced. And when I say we I’m referring to all the people who don’t support this addon, which context should have made apparent. Lead a horse to water and all that I guess.
