I enjoy classic immensely, do I think it is better or worse than retail in any way. Not really, people make mountains out of molehills.

For someone in your position, who likes to see progress within a small amount of playtime, I would definitely recommend retail. It is stiĺl a fun game, and you will see progress every day.
I’m not sure why some folks are acting like the two versions are at war. They are both good games and there is nothing wrong with choosing one over the other. Both forums are full of people trying to prove their choice is right and players in the other version are somehow inferior or trying to take something from them. It’s pointless.

i cant even log in to retail and i have already been putting hours of time leveling in classic.
its just so much fun with the class design retail has horrible class design.the gdc on classic wow is like .5 sec and on retail its like 2sec…lol.
There is just no levelling in retail anymore. The absolutely redundant part of the game which can be easily removed
Classic leveling is just as easy as Retail, it’s just more tedious.
Unfortunately the endgame content of Classic, the only real content atm, is laughingly easy and will never evolve.
TBC to cata has more in common with vanilla than with retail imo. Even mop it’s more like vanilla. WoD and onward has been a decline in wow that I consider more similar to the retail experience. Get to max level to play the lottery on good gear and have a pruned class in comparison to older xpacs.
Alao Cata heroics were “hard” until they nerfed them like 1-2 months in then they were super easy.
I did post cata alts, there wasn’t a lot of vehicle and rocket launcher quests. Maybe you did a few and it sticks out more than the collecting bear asses quests?
I leveled my main in WotLK at the beginning. It was a pain from 1 to 80 sure. But now, with Heirlooms, i can level 1-10 in 10 minutes and pull multiple mobs, more than a regular starter, with the gear, and in classic, without all this great stuff, i cant, im lucky to get 2 levels in 10 minutes.
So here’s my take.
Questing is not harder in Classic. It just feels like it. Upgrades come very rarely and the quest gear does not scale appropriately or is itemized correctly.
Retail has all of this so every item scales you to the appropriate power. If you had the same in classic you will see how much faster questing is.
Another problem is respawns/multi tagging because classic doesn’t have this it prolongs duration of the quests. So the exact quest on retail would take 2 minutes it would take 15 in classic. TBh the mobs spawns and waiting around is frustrating and boring.
That pretty much it.
For the most part, the people I group with in LFG/LFR are entirely uninterested in conversation.
