It is exactly how you describe the issue.
It was really only an issue for me between 100-125. From when I started with Briarthorn, Bruiseweed, and Mageroyal I was getting skillups, albeit slowly, but once I hit 100 then I was hardstuck. At 125 I could level off the abundance of kingsblood and it was all fixed from there.
All in all, 25 points from stranglekelp wasnt the worst thing in the world since I needed it for alchemy anyway.

Something that is helpful but not 100% for herb gathering is to kill a mob before doing a gather. Doing that for some reason kind of resets the skill up logic and your odds are better for the skill up.

I am currently trying to lvl i am at 96 Herbalism and have gone from Hillsbrad into Arathi Mageroyal is orange Briarthorn is orange Bruiseweed is orange have found no strangkelp going to head to STV and see if i can find any there if you have any other luck ill keep a eye out on this post Thank you i thought i was going insane

stranglekelp is in water/rivers or on the coast usually

The not leveling when gathering orange level herbs started at level 76 for me. Please fix this.

Well in fairness when I log in on Tues I hope my skill level is increased as compensation…we are well past those zone now to LVL up and have missed out on a lot of herbing.
Like other people have said, you can level up past 90 using Stranglekelp, you can buy the herbalism shovel for a +10 boost to allow you to get out of the 90’s faster, and as soon as you hit 115 (Or 105 with the shovel) you can start gathering Wild Steelbloom and Kingsblood and the like (I think it’s 115) and Kingsblood is abundant in Stranglethorn.
If you don’t feel like traveling to Thousand Needles for Stranglekelp and are in the vicinity of Arathi you can take a quick swim from the pirate cove over to Wetlands and run up and down along the shore looking for Stranglekelp nodes.
There’s also small numbers of it in Northern Stranglethorn too so you can jump straight to higher level herbs and start leveling like normal.
Seems to just be the 1-100 bracket that has issues.
Guess it’s that Bruiseweed, Mageroyal and Briarthorn are using much lower level brackets than intended.
Thank you for posting this, I spent about 2 hours last night lvling from 95 to 100 picking mageroyal and bruiseweed. Thank you blizzard for a bug wasting my time, should have looked this up sooner. Movie was too good though
