Leveling Combo

Hello Wow Classic Community! Let’s start with I played classic, raided a good amount, a few naxx kills, but nothing crazy. I have continued to play, some tiers raid, some tiers don’t, mythic, normal… what my schedule and interest allows at the time of each expansion. It really doesn’t matter except to show that I understand game mechanics.

I am now older than I was and married and have tried to get my wife to get into my hobby/passion. It worked a bit in swtor, she enjoyed that but current wow was too fast paced for her, so she got frustrated and gave up. I think I’ve got her ready to jump into Classic as I’ve promised her it will be slow paced and she can read the quests.

Ok great… now don’t blow it right? and let her play the wrong class? or let her pick? Also, what should I play to be her companion? A support class for quicker dungeon groups or to keep her alive as we level? If I tank in the open world, will she be more prepared for when we run a dungeon to attack my target and keep her sheep controlled?

I think she is leaning towards mage so lets assume that’s where she lands- What would be the best class to play alongside her as to not steal all the killing blows and allow her to experience the game in the best way possible? I’m going to main a hunter(miner/engi) as I enjoy the mechanics and solo power of it- and probably level a druid as well-this could be the one with her or not, I would prefer to get this toon up quicker than she will want to play as it will be alchy/herb.

Finally, what are some great leveling duos when considering synergy, roles, and sharing gear drops?

Cheers

Play a rogue and have her play druid. You can get around unseen around together after 20, which is long before you have to deal with any significant amount of PVP. Able to both jump on someone at the same time from stealth as well, even if she rolls Restoration or Balance.

This is the build I went with on Druid with Subtlety Rogue duo, up to level 30 for purposes of this Beta: https://classicdb.ch/?talent#0zLxZZxV0o

Best thing you can do for her is bind Q and E to Bear Form and Cat Form, so she can easily get in and out quickly. That would be Special Action 1 and 3, I believe. For rogue, I would bind Stealth (Special Action 1) to F.

Honestly, IMO, the hunter/mage combo wouldn’t be bad if you’re just going to play to play.

You’d have a tank, you’d have food, you’d have ports, and you’d have a lot of control over the flow of combat, and there would be no gear conflicts.

Mage/Mage is wicked powerful for duo leveling, but comes at the downside of not getting into groups as easily. Swap one mage for a shadow priest (which can heal just fine until very late leveling) and you’re still really strong, but now have near instant groups.

Warrior/Priest
Warrior/Pally
Double Mage
Pally/Lock
Druid/Lock
Warrior/Shaman

This… there is a reason Thrall and Grom took down Manaroth.

Thanks for all the quick feedback- I plan to push for 60 on my hunter to get onto a raid team so the hunter option is out as she won’t keep pace with the amount Ill play. The mage/mage suggestion is enticing as double aoe farm seems fun but she wont be playing at that level- if she went mage, the skill cap would be keep a target poly’ed and then casting frostbolt, most likely not utilizing blink and nova very well. If I played as ret, how much healing/saving/oh sh*t will I be able to do as I think there could be many body pulls and just lots of learning happening.

Had to give horde some love.

Druid/Shaman is good as well.

mage, tank
herb/alch

I agree that a Rogue and Druid could be a fun combo because that’s what my husband I played when the game launched. One piece of advice, though. If you’re the rogue and you accidentally pull an entire camp of gnolls in the Wetlands, don’t say “sorry, darlin’” and hit vanish! Almost 15 years later and I STILL haven’t let my husband forget that he did that to me! It was probably my fastest and most horrific death in game.

If she rolls a mage. A feral druid would be good to level with her. She can make food and water so mana isnt an issue if you have to toss out spot heals when leveling. Two good buffs. You can go feral/resto and heal or tank dungeons. Tank first, and if you heal you will want some healing gear to heal as feral(if you see a group looking for a healer and dps that already has a tank). Druids are dope. Plus if she ever dies you can battle resurrect her.

If you are ever in a pickle she can frost nova the mobs. You move out of range of the mobs, heal you both up and finish the fight or both run away, lol.

Because he was an evil demon?

Gonna find me a pet tank and heal away on my shaman.
