Lets talk about solo content and ele

Ele IMO has always been a slow starter, in that it tickles when you first start out, but once you get some gear it starts to slam. This version however, has been espeically painful to play being blunt, and with how badly our defensives have been gutted, its been rough trying to do any sort of open world content currently.

Comparing my ele shaman, main spec is resto, to my ret, main spec holy paladin, is night and day. As ret I have so many defensive options, my burst is simply far better in comparison, and I feel safer when I have more than one mob pulled at a time in comparsion to ele. Ele on the other hand just feels like I’m playing with a wet paper bag on my hand, while being a paper doll as my defensives both have too long of a CD, and healing surge simply cannot compete with the output of current mobs, meaninf the second you start spamming is when you essentially enter a deadlock state of just being toast.

Ele currently needs some attention badly, not right before the raid releases, but right now given it does overall matter. For those of us that are playing shaman for the upcoming tier, its simply in an atrocious state, and presents a clear slanted disadvantge in content due to how it currently plays. Like being blunt I feel like I am better off avoiding the bulk of solo content for the moment and just waiting for another round of M0 and raid to open up, simply because of how bad it is to play right now.

Please give it a tuning pass over the weekend, if the defensives were to be given a buff then I feel it would be in a better state. As right now this is just bad all around, and seriously needs some attention.

Solo outside of cooldowns, ele is awful.

Ele is also very squishy.

In mythic 0 it feels fine to me, but soloing things is terrible with ele outside when waiting on cooldowns.

I think the problem is being balanced around a single cooldown, ascendence, even after they nerfed it.

Right, as I stated back in TWW, ascendance simply holds way too much power in ele, and some of that power needs to pulled out of it and put into the baseline spells and stormkeeper. I was actually able to do the hardmode prey, I literally had wait for all my CD’s to come up before moving onto the next orb or trying to summon and ambush. Simply becuase if I didn’t then I would just go splat.

I did get a weapon and now I am definitly start to cook a bit, but it’s still pretty bad defensive wise in that I can barely tank anything. I haven’t even started to delve grind yet I am dreading doing so simply because of the serious defensive issues.

I have not started my prey or delves with the same concerns,…will get into it tonight or tomorrow.. I am nervous about it though.

I did level my hunter as well and they are very much in the same if this, if beastial wrath or boomstick are not available it’s painful but at least you have a pet that can hold the mobs in the interim.

I can’t believe a class with a literal rocks and lightning floating around them gets so hammered.

Oh and I am guessing my shield is purely cosmetic.

I’m glad to hear that it’s not just me. It takes me forever to kill mobs and I have decent gear (leveling + dungeon stuff). I’m easily the lowest damage in dungeons, and man just watching other classes kill the same mobs I’m fighting out in the world is pretty discouraging. I’ve seen lower level monks and ret pallys kill mobs in a few seconds.

Right, and if you don’t want to take that talent, you’re even worse off. Kinda obnoxious that we have to take specific talents to even be competitive in DPS, and also for a lot of our hero talents to even work.

Yea it’s very weird, our burst with ascendance is absolutely absurd damage and I always top meter when I use it. But outside of that I’m below tanks lol. Maybe there’s a build that gives more consistency but I haven’t messed around yet to find one. Currently doing stormbringer but I want to try to make a decent farseer that has more consistent damage, no idea if that’s possible

I don’t know if it’s possible since Farseer also revolves around a different cooldown. I have seen a decent amount of people who love Stormkeeper liking farseer more for the consistency.

I can imagine a LB build that gets consistent ancestors can be more consistent dmg. I will try tonight to see what I can come up with

I really didn’t have any issues leveling as ele. I used the leveling build off of Wowhead and did fine. I have modified it a bit now that I am lvl 90 to suit my needs in open world but zero issues.

I’m a little late to this one, but I am on the fence about Ele Sham. I main Resto and use Ele for all solo content. There are 100% times where I feel as though I am spamming spells just to take off 5%-10% of health bars. However, I use the Farseer talents and keeping Stormkeeper and Ancerstal Swiftness in rotation, I can do fairly decent damage when needed.

The last hard mode hunt I did I got Frost Shock for kiting. I was able to blow through the “boss” with barely being touched. But this was achieved by popping both CD’s above to get copies of myself, ascendance, AND spiritwalker. The process to getting to the boss was much slower.

I think Ele sham is ~okay~ if certain spells are kept in a solid rotation. When blowing them all, we certainly can dish out some insane damage. But I agree with Lolreligions - too much of our damage is locked behind CD’s, and maintaining copies of ourselves with Stormkeeper and such, whereas other classes simply do more sustained damage.

I haven’t played Enhance at 90 yet, but I have been considering switching the last couple days.

I thought it was just me, it has felt so awful watching Ret Pallys blow mobs up near me as I’m fighting to the death with two mobs after accidentally aggroing just one extra than I can reliably handle.

I absolutely love Stormkeeper but I’ve swapped farseer because of this. I’m doubting we’ll see big Shaman changes soon but I feel like shaman as a whole is bottom of the pack right now for a lot of content.

Leveled a Haranir Shaman in the hopes ele was going to be good. It’s not. It’s horrible.

The damage is awful. (Outside of Ascendance)

CC is horrible. A channeled cc (Lightning Lasso) way outdated in today’s game. Hex on a 30 second cooldown? What? And the target still gets to position themselves. Way outdated. Capacitor Totem on about a minute cooldown AND lost chain stun? What?

Elementals buffs are outdated terribly. You have to track FOUR mandatory buffs AND waste how many talents just to be kosher? This needs to be 1 buff.

Don’t even get me started on Elementals survivability cuz it’s not there. You are automatically the target of choice.

It’s no wonder why you don’t see any Shamans in pvp content since preseason. I’m sorry but not touching Shaman until it receives its attention that it deserves. It’s not worth the pain. No matter how cool I think it is.

the 99k Earth Shocks that vaporize a random thing can be nice

thats a much bigger dopamine hit than throwing a full Ascendance burst windows into absorbs that just don’t break, screen lit up like Chinese new year with casts, procs, overloads, overloaded overloads, ancestors. Palpatine lightning, Elemental Blast³ . . . . . . . .
.

Absorb doesnt break
Ascendance expires

Now that I’ve gotten some gear it’s not so bad, but it definitely needs some help given the primary issue is ascendance carries too much power currently.
