Let's Launch a Commend System in Rated Blitz Battlegrounds, It would fix the toxicity.... mostly

Hi Everyone,

A “Commend” system… a lot of you are probably thinking oh no another system in wow but hear me out please. This system can be simple and effective in my perspective. This is how it would work:

-At end of game score screen simply add a “thumbs up” style button next to each players name.

-Example of use: A player kindly suggests strategies, calls targets, holds bases well, CC’s like well, etc.. When teammates take notice, they can commend the other player on their team making the determination themselves if it was a “commendable action”. This gives power to individuals and gives the Blitz community a fun responsibility.

-What should you earn for getting Commends? Simple, 5 conquest. So in theory any player each match (win or lose) could earn 5-35 additional conquest, since you could earn 7 other teammates’ commendations. For best effectiveness, you should be able to commend every other teammate you have if you want.

-I believe simple positive reinforcement would give reason for those with good intentions to speak out more in games, as well as help curb toxicity and increase cooperation. In addition, I believe games would stay more competitive, and there would be less “blowouts” as well from players giving up before the match ends. This system gives players a good reason to try and play with HONOR (it’s a Horde thing) even in a losing situation.

Sincerely, Someone who has wished for another variation of of Glineaus BG (spelling seems wrong but meh you get it)

Problem is, friends will thumb up each other.
Many randoms will give thumbs up to best DPS or Healer ignoring those who could have been more valuable to the team fights like CCed healer all the time.

If you wish to fix toxicity then system needs to be different. If during the matches or after, Someone message in chat or /w of players of that match some BS like “Healer Suck”, “You all {insert your favorite derogatory term here} can’t play the game”. Then system would mark you, and if you repeat that you will get a debuff that would reduce the honor and conquest gained by 11%, if you repeat that system would triple the penalty, again and it would triple it again. Debuff last for 12 hours and renewed when new penalty is applied. Debuff is account wide.

I think making a punitive system would only increase the toxicity, and some people may be unfairly targeted.

Even if a friend thumbs up another friend (because at max you can only que up with 2). An extra 5 conquest per game would be too insignificant to make a difference in power. Especially considering there is a weekly conquest cap that we can’t go beyond anyways.

And if positive reinforcement doesn’t work, you can still report people they way we always have, or eventually implement your system.

You want a community known for mass false reporting to commend each other?

“Im commending you for being able to defy all odds and still ruin the game for our team”

As funny as that would be it would be just like other games to just be toxic (DOTA, Deadlock). Imagine taking someones base and you get to commend the enemy while they are in the GY

Report system is heavily unreliable.
I know two people who ran SS, One can type some thing like “you are idiot” and second can type crap that ideally should get him banned from the internet.
And first dude got warnings and eventual ban for few days. Second - Zero.
Also report system is heavily abused, recent and not so recent history when 10-20 people just false reported one person and get that person banned has not been resolved on the technical level.

Adding a commend system is entirely unnecessary. We already have an objective and quantitative measurement of player skill, which is rating. A player with a positive attitude, strong leadership, and the willingness to call a game plan naturally gains a significant advantage in Blitz. Their ability to elevate the team is reflected directly in their rating. Dean is a good example of someone who makes his team better and he does sit at the top of the ladder as a result.

Relying on subjective player opinions introduces massive flaws and biases. Many players mistakenly reward stats padding. As a comparison, dirty work and discipline are frequently not appreciated. We also see some flashy but suboptimal game plans keep getting called in Blitz especially in low mmr matches.

Popular opinion does not equal accurate gameplay understanding. So please let subjective opinions stay off the court, relegate them to stream chats and forums, and leave the matches driven purely by objective results.

I think you might be referring to the “Tip” system in Dota 2. Which you can do during comabt/play. I am not advocating for that and agree that would be an issue. I am not advocating for commending enemy team members either. Those ideas are much more complex than what I suggested.

I get the idea of wanting to inject the rated community with some positivity….but this idea just sounds terrible because of the logistics. For anything like that to work, and for blitz to work for n general they need to make it solo Que only or all the partners would just thumbs up each other. I get the positivity but logistically not gonna make sense

This would only be for SS and Blitz, functioning as a recommendation system.

Since the Duo Queue unfortunately still exists, there should be a limit of only one recommendation per player. This wouldn’t solve anything, but you could see who has good recommendations.
Yesterday I was losing faith, and a warlock I met in Blitz and I carried the entire team epically; he was very kind and told me he appreciated me a lot. I’d like to give that person a +1 recommendation, for example.

Only if they include a thumbs down button that I can use on people that throw the game. They don’t even have to lose conquest, but I gotta let them know how I feel.

i’ve been using an addon called GladPush TiltShield, it does nothing to get out of elo hell, but it does block you from seeing ratings and nastygrams from other players. the other thing is anonymizing the other team, i just see rogue1, rogue 2, etc. makes blitz feel more like random bgs.

During arena matches, all incoming whispers are replaced with positive encouragement messages:

  • “Focus on your own play, you’re doing great.”
  • “You can’t control others’ actions, only your own.”
  • “Stay calm and trust your gameplay.”
  • “One game at a time. Stay in the moment.”

Didn’t know about that addon. So wholesome! :sparkling_heart:

We all know the type - entitled but nervous, pushy but pathetic, assertive but usually wrong. Walking embodiments of the Dunning–Kruger effect. Whiny white men.

WoW’s full of them and their privilege and their toxicity. Recommendation system’s unlikely to assist, but worth trying I guess.

As I’m reading this thread - Omnivore just popped up on my X timeline crying about some guy needing on everything in Forever Beta. The guys response? ‘‘Ur like 40.’’ I laughed.

I’m not the only one who sees that these 40 year old man children are entitled - and will literally complain about every single thing… even inside of a Beta.

Imagine a 40 year old man crying over a pixelated weapon.

This is why I refuse to add or play with anyone in this game.
