yeah i don’t do epic bgs anymore for this reason. i turned down all the flashy stuff and still doesn’t help. i assume most of us played these back in the day and never had a problem. So, no you are not the only one.
The are illegals ways to cause lag during big team fights using programs. The grey area is the same with world PVP which is tossing a bunch of toys and items on the ground before a team fight.

I find it the worst when I bang on my attack buttons and nothing at all happens like I am not making contact. Ashran is the most frequent for me….

It has 100% gotten worse since Dragonflight. Got worse again in The War Within, now seems much worse in Midnight. I am getting a new computer hopefully late September so I will be interested to see if that improves anything for me.

Often when people say they have bad lag I don’t, not sure why. When I do notice it there’s usually a premade on the other side. But I don’t see toys on the ground or things that look sus, just a blob of players and pets as usual.. 
Just like BFA/Systemlands the new spells have new effects that need to be calculated due to hero trees as they are so many passives going off. A proc on top of proc and this can quickly turn a team battle into a lag fest.

The first engagement of Ashran in ROC. Literally game braking lag in epic bgs. The side that wins is the one that either lags less or has less disconnects. Honestly, an extremely poor representation of Blizzards commitment to this game as of late. The Microsoft layoffs aren’t going to help.

64 vs 64 battlefield 2042 runs much better than any wow epic match, and i have all the battlefield settings to ultra in 4k, for wow I have to lower many settings to medium to get similar fps.

I think it’s this, maybe even combined with things like blizz’s damage meter.
But sometimes it’s funny-sad to see when people complain about the lag and then essentially give up, believing the “other side” is purposely causing it and also refusing to believe the “other side” has any lag themselves.
But let’s say an individual is somehow causing the lag, couldn’t the game systems pick up on that easily enough such that the issue could be dealt with? I know wow players these days love to exploit anything and everything they can until it’s fixed.

Had some lag today that had nothing to with server load, just a bit of my little pony magic. Kinda cringe to pull that stuff in epics, or any mode, and none too bright.

Battlefield also doesn’t have a ton of things going off per character during fights. That is what causes all the lag. All the auras, spells etc that go off. They know it does too because they have said so in the past. They have even tried to address lag in places like raids, they just ignore PvP though of course.
Have you ever played 2042?, obviously we are comparing apples to oranges but it can get very intense when the tornadoes appear and start blowing everyone and everything across the map with a 128 player server. Also, if all the aura and effects in wow cause lag, isnt that on blizz for making the calculations too complicated?
As someone who has close to 5 figures of hours in bf2042 and double that in bf4. Nothing in those games, even in the height of mass combat in the tornadoes, affects my PC performance that wow epics do.
Not the same game types but I know my ultra wide 4k monitor, everything on max with all the current “best” comp parts. I’ll drop to low 40s in the first fights. It will sometimes freeze everyone in place , then everyone will speed across the screen for a few seconds or run in place with 5 sec delays in key presses.

Two distinct types of lag, very easy to tell the difference.
Sure some of you are legit discussing the regular kind but start feeling gaslit more peeps deny existence of the exploit variety and exclusively discuss server load.
Either way, we’ll just keep filing reports and yesterday’s little dance performance provided potentially actionable material.
There’s been multiple horde guilds/communities that have claimed their opponents were using sekrit hax over the years and no proof can weirdly ever be posted.
Fair enough. I don’t argue on the internet. That’s for morons, trolls and the desperately lonely.

there was certain items and toys you could spam that cause the servers to go its knees. Certain scripts and conditionals before blizzard started changing and blocking things. But you won’t get an honest answer here. Plus you risk catching a vacation if you talk about things like that in detail.
