Killing him off was the mistake, it should have been captured or miraculous escape only to return expansion or 2 later.
Wrath is the best because of the story. Warcraft 3 just nailed it. Arthas/Lich King hands down is the best character to come from wow. Screw the expansion Arthas is the hero we need at Blizz right now.
Pass. Wrath was too god forsakenly easy.
lol what? SL is the easiest expansion.
time gating =/= difficult
I’ll take wrath’s story with MoP’s systems and progression
tbh mops system was fine too
This was also the last expansion before all the pruning, and class abilities, and homogenization, and all the major changes, such as the revamp. EVer since cataclysm, it seems like if it aint, broken, don’t fix it did not apply to anyone developing the game anymore.
Wow suffers from like 5 major things these days.
-
The changes. Alot of changes over the years have caused it’s decline.
-
It’s age. I feel like wow came out yesterday though, and i still do not believe wrath of the lich king is nostalgic yet. But it is nostalgic to alot of players. But the age most definitely can cause people to leave.
-
Company greed. I truly felt like wow and the people in charge of marketing got greedy. I feel this took away from the creative directors of the game. The quality started to dip. I remember cataclysm being ok for a while, but towards the end it just wasn’t what the average player wanted it to be, and i feel the revamp should have complimented the old overworld. It was removed entirely, which ticked people like me off. I liked the revamp, but preffered the old one. This also applies to the changes category.
-
Player Entitlement. This was a cataclysm thing, but it carried forward. I hate this, i hate that. I want this, i want that. If you do not do this blizzard, we are canceling our subs. It is to hard to sheep mobs blizz in heroic dungeons. I do not know about anyone else, but wow shadowlands, the most recent expansion, has been pretty awesome so far. Some things are wrong with it, but overall it isn’t bad. I cannot count how many forum posts i see now that say everyone and everything sucks. This patch sucks. This pet sucks. Some of you wow players just absolutely slay me.

All the scandals. In the last 5 years, it feels like blizzard has had a ton of scandals. The sexual harrassment scandal recently and the blitzchung scandal being the most notable. The prize pool scandal. Warcraft 3 reforged. The list goes on. Company value and reputation is important. Heck, we could potentially not get a wrath of the lich king classic because of this sexual harrassment scandal. Is it really that hard to provide diversity within the working communities within all american companies. Just such a stupid scandal. Like, we are being sued because we do not foster a work space that is inclusive to females and minorities, and a ton of other behaviors. This does not look good on anyones resume. Hopefully blizz gets there stuff together, and the workers and females and minorities and the like get the treatment they deserve, and unsubbing won’t help either. Because then anyone good within the company, will never have a chance.
So with that, wrath was really the last expansion before all those bullets happened. Although greed could have potentially happened before that, but wow has a truckload of microtransactions now. It does not even feel like an mmorpg now. Although shadowlands has been pretty good so far. Still workin on my warrior at lvl 55. Maldraxxus in the house. I just want the class designs among other things from wrath, back in the retail game. The old overworld being one of those things.
It’s a double-edged sword.
They had a lot more devs and devs with prestigious degrees. They had more support staff as well.
Now, they have less devs and more “budget” devs. They also have less support staff.
I’m sure there are still lingering employees from that era who would love the game to be that active.
But when you really think about it. What all did we have back then that we don’t have now? In Wrath, you had heroics and raids. For the norm, what else did we really have to do?
There is a lot more to do now for sure. I played back then and all there really was to do were raids, heroics, dailies and BGs. With current player expectations I think there would be a lot of complaints about lack of content and difficulty in finding groups.
There are things I loved about WotLK like 3.0 affliction, but overall the expansion was a mess. Its saving grace was that it made it ridiculously easy to level and raid on alts.
Exactly.
The dungeons back then were not even all that great either. They were not horrible but they were not leaps and bounds.
People in this game are never happy no matter what you give them. Give them a bag of gold and they’ll complain about the bag.
It’s subjective. Number wise Wrath probably is the best because it was the peak of the game. MoP was the best imo. The gameplay, leveling, accessibility, the story, the art. Everything about it was good to me. Wrath was best for giving me memories of starting out. MoP gave me good memories as somebody who’s played for a long time at that point, and that’s a whole lot harder to do.
They really need to tone down on the system stuff. Let us hold the reins again and play with a little more decision making of our own without so much outside power to grind.
In a sense, if you are referring specifically to the actual old school game and not “classic”.
Old school WoW was great at the time. It was relevant content, we had actual communities and not so much competition.
Today, we have a lot of things that absolutely ruined the game such as newer generation entitled gamers, streamers, other game options, paid carries and cross realms. Some of those things sound like great ideas on paper but when you actually apply them, the results do not yield what you would expect.
Those things were rare to non-existent back when early WoW was relevant. No matter what, we’ll never get that experience unless someone plays a private server run by people who force out things like paid carries, people who talk about streamers, etc.
Yeah, it is better than nothing. And I too will play Wrath classic, if we get it.
I do appreciate the attempts both inside Blizzard and outside for preservation of content.
By pure numbers , the earth is the favorite planet … numbers means nothing … And just to prove im not defending any expansion , the number for SL could be up by a million and it wouldnt mean anything if half of them quit after a month and the other start selling gold and carries
Depends on what metric you’re looking at. If it’s covid cases, Uranus is better!
Depends , mine or ur ?
Kinda sick today so mine isnt a good place to live atm >.>
Wrath was a good expansion, and it certainly was their highest amount of subscribers, but it’s not my favorite.
I wager if they did an aggressive advertisement campaign now like they did back then, with celebrities doing commercials about who they play, we’d see a similar spike in people checking the game out.
IMO MoP will always be my favorite expansion, followed closely by Legion. But Wrath is up there, sure.
it’s where the lore was at its best so definitely. Nothing will ever come close to Arthas’s storyline.
Mist’s of Pandaria is the real feather in the franchises cap.
- It had no lore to fall back on.
- It used the new Talent Trees.
- And it was more involved than Wrath.
