It’s no longer pure RNG when they added m+ / catalyst / vault.
Another incorrect take.
Common trend I see.

Only one of those is deterministic and it’s the catalyst.
To an extent sure,
One can be infinitely farmed.
And the other one grants you an item based on the content you ran.
I don’t mind the token system, but adding anything else to reduce the RNG on current systems im fully against.
It’s already easy enough to gear up.
The vault serves two purposes ultimately:
What you just described as two weeks of “Nothing” and “Too much”, is first of all an extreme. If you do next to no content, this is just additional gear. But if you have filled out 3-6 slots (unless you are a PvP:er in which, yah’ the system sucks and that’s why PvP is changing in the next expansion gearing-wise) it is mathematically and statistically neigh on impossible for you to not have any relevant options from 3-6 pieces of gear or a free socket.
This is a system meant to last for an entire patch. Not get you into full BiS in two weeks of a patch releasing. The system works as intended and works amazingly well; allowing us to freeze a slot, whatever you meant in that except as a way to target additional BiS pieces, is an abhorrently HORRIFIC idea that would completely destroy the purpose of the vault for endgame players. And for folks playing casually there’s no such thing as “BiS”, just item levels.
It’s funny how the current upgrade system actually would work great with WF/TF. Just make it free extra levels that can’t go over the cap.
And give us back reforging, for that matter. It would save Blizzard themselves a lot of pain as they wouldn’t have to be so restrained in itemization.
Not really. Like on the surface level it would but the point of those systems were to bring items above their intended item level. For casual players it was a “random reward for nothing except luck”, which honestly was fun. But for endgame players it meant running through The Maw in less than 3-4 minutes and hoping for extreme levels of titanforging just made more mathematical sense.
Eventually … it killed people’s interest in gear. Because it just became a question of “I will replace it with whatever crap titanforges to ridiculous ilvl anyway so… meh”. Our current upgrade systems has flaws, but those flaws also have their benefits because they all exist within their intended ilvl and scaling range.
Adding any form of Titan- or Warforging to this would just make crests more obsolete faster if done as you suggested. And if done the way folks would claim they wanted it, it would again ruin any sense of meaningfulness from any kind of gear.
Why though? It made sense when there was a limited set of gear where you had, at best, 2 options. Maybe in some rare cases you had THREE different types of statlines. But even in those situations it created a type of homogenization of stats that isn’t healthy for the game either.
I play Outlaw rogue and I’m already tanky enough where I can tank the boss for one, maybe two auto attacks. This is because versatility is Outlaw rogue’s best stat. If I could reforge my gear I genuinely could get enough versatility where I could become a permanent pseudo-tank. Couldn’t survive tank-specific abilities, but the fact that as a dps I can take hits from the boss and survive without using any kind of defensive cooldowns is already ridiculous.
This is before considering what tanks could do if they could min-max their exact statlines. Which in turn creates another hassle that wasn’t fun when it was in the game and that was that you now had to sim your gear for stat-reforging as well. Which meant that one upgrade you wanted just meant you need to resim your gear and reforge everything again because something broke along the way. And for casual players it just meant pressing buttons until a funny number came up.
We have more options for gear now, with more statlines, and less broken tertiary stats. Reforging, whether the system or the titan-/warforging stuff has no place in the game anymore.
Blizzard needs to move away from getting bis as random, and instead delay power via upgrades
Na. Just let us pick which slot to get our gear in for the week.
What if you get the same trinkets 3 times in a row?..
Then it’s going to turn into “don’t let duplicate items appear in the vault after you already gotten it”.
The rabbit hole runs so deep with these forums that eventually it just becomes silly.
It’s already insanely easy to gear up.
I’m just glad the forum is a minority.
I dunno. I have slammed my pinky toe into a table leg.
Dezyre is so delusional they seem to believe they’re the head decision maker at blizzard.
Who knows, maybe they are?
amazing idea OP!
I’ve had wooden slivers forced underneath a toenail. I’d rather replicate that experience again than face a useless vault. ![]()
