Blizzard please. For the love of god. Let us disable the spheres out of combat. Let us change how they look as well eventually if possible. I don’t mean this offensively when I say this, but they look so poorly positioned on my character model— it’s terrible looking.
Instead of cool Kael’thas inspired floating orbs, we got static and motionless balls floating DIRECTLY above our heads like a floating hat. I mean this literally. You positioned these orbs directly above our character’s heads. If I reached up and pulled the orbs down, I could wear them as a hat. The orbs should be positioned behind our shoulders and lower down— a bit more like a mantle and less like a hat. They’d also feel better if they had a bit more of their own movement, rather than moving so stiffly with my character’s every minor movement.
I mean totally random idea here but maybe let us use the Felo’melorn artifact weapon orb animations from Legion and add an Arcane effect to the flames as an option at least?
My character literally looks like a candelabra. This does not spark joy.

I wish they wouldn’t look so fiery when I’m Sunfury Arcane. A glyph to make them and the phoenix either more fiery or more arcane looking would be nice.
I was going to make another post about this, but the forums suggested this as a similar thread, so reply it is:
At the very least, please change spellfire spheres to make them free floating like warlock soul shards. It’s so unnerving to watch the spheres bob with my character’s shoulders, it looks like they’re attached by invisible wires.

That’s exactly what they did about halfway through season 1. They attached them to fixed points on the character mesh and they couldn’t even align them properly, they’re off-centered to the right. It was ostensibly to “fix” how the spheres looked on certain shorter races but the result just made them awful for everyone.

How did this happen when they have an existing way of doing this that would look better? Is there something about the warlock floating soul shards that I’m missing that would prevent them from using a similar method for these spheres?
Beats me, my main alt has always been a destro lock so I also naturally assumed they would work like that but evidently not. If I was cynical I’d say whoever made the lock soul shards left Blizzard or was laid off and the institutional knowledge on how to make them was lost with him/her so this is the best the hastily promoted interns currently running things could do because they couldn’t replicate the code for some reason.
Be careful what you ask for. There is a thread in the warlock section talking about a bug regarding their floating soul shards. It sounds like the Diabolist tier set Demonic Oculus model will not appear if the warlock is using a soul shard glyph. Why would they attach a tier set visual effect to the same system as a glyph and not make sure both could work at the same time?
Any bets on how they could introduce more bugs into the mage class if they copy/paste an already bugged system from another class?
If only someone could have foreseen something like this would happen, lol.
The soul shard system isn’t bugged and has been working just fine for well over a decade. The bug is with the experimental hero talent based tier set bonuses and how they interact with the old code. And anyway the Spellfire Spheres are already bugged as previously mentioned, what’s one more?
Come on Blizz, admit when you are wrong, the spellfire spheres suck and break the immersion of playing an arcane mage.

It took them about 10 years to admit they were wrong about RoP so maybe by 2030 if we’re lucky?
