Redoing these zones and their quests…the campaign and the side quests.
My god the story and questing teams have been just phoning it in at best ever since.
Like the difference between Suramar and Isle of Dorn. If you told people those zones both happened in the same game they would think they were inebriated.
And it’s not even just the quests it’s the zone aesthetics and the uniqueness everywhere. Each zone has such a contrast to their counterparts yet they are all connected together so smoothly with the overarching narrative going on.
I have no idea what happened to the team since then or why they just can’t replicate literally any of this but it has made me realize how much retail suffers from such a bland and vanilla campaign and narrative in each of the xpac zones.

Suramar is going to be hard to top but in the same expansion we had some of the worst writing with Malfurion and Tyrande, so much so that its been memed on.

What about wheel chair dragon?
Can you tell me they don’t care when wheelie dragon exists?

I played during legion. Is there a point to doing it again other than… for old timey feels?

Legion also had some of the worst story aspects I have seen for WoW.

Wait do people like suramar?
As someone who grinded out the story for the azshara robe, it’s 90% ancient mana farming.
Problem happens, throw ancient mana at it.
Need to hire a guy? 4000 ancient mana

This. Legion quests had some obnoxious story beats.

Whenever I think of Legion, I remember the stark contrast between your character supposedly being the all-powerful leader of their own order wielding weapons of legend and the frequent moments where they’re helpless as a villain screws them or their allies over, up to and including the final raid boss of the expansion just one-shotting your entire group and you needing Titan intervention to win.

Oh and Ysera getting taken out by what’s basically a pebble.

Legion wasn’t messing around. It was designed to be soul-crushing and prepare you for the Afterlife. The world was in such bad shape they let Demon Hunters back out. A last resort among civilized ancients.

To be fair, Suramar is basically Silvermoon 2.0. The Nightbourne’s background story is practically nigh identical to the Blood Elves. Blizzard is just giving a round 2 retelling of it.
Heck, a lot of Legion is just TBC remastered where they tried to improve or fix their mistakes from TBC - e.g. having Illidan die as a loot piñata.

Legion and Wrath suffer the same blessings and curses. They were done exceedingly well, and people were actually invested in the stories. Just further proof that it takes a good villain to make a good expansion. Xal’atath is not a good villain. She is obnoxious and predictable.

Some of malfurions dialogue is truly burned into my brain. It’s a shame because it was part of a truly memorable arc with Ysera.

Legion had simultaneously the best story and worst story all at once. I wish I had even half the confidence of Legion henchmen.
But I’d still take campy Malfurion over what we have now. His long no makes me laugh to this day.

Suramar is as close to master piece for the wow team as they ever got in terms of a well done city with tons of decent story and quests.
But I’m not talking about it in remix I meant the original “real” legion . Remix everything is shortened significantly.
The only thing I’ll admit to was in legion I was annoyed with the slow build at first to the whole legion thing . But after it got going then I was like “hey this is pretty cool”.

That’s not the right comparison.
- The Isle of Dorn is like Dalaran, the hub for the expansion.
- Suramar is more like Hallowfall, a questing zone in the expansion.

A case of the memes transcending what actually happened. Remember that the scenes of Malfurion crying out for Tyrande like a lost child was specifically Xavius trying to screw with her and not actually Malfurion

And people always forget that yeah it wasn’t Malfurion but Tyrande still believed it was. Strongest mortal on Azeroth, reduced to a meme.

If brann is still screaming in my ear in midnight, I will lose my mind.
but as someone who knew the lore/story/whatever of legion but didn’t actually play it, I am enjoying doing the quests in Lemix.

I’d argue Pandaria did her way worse, honestly. At least we can believe she cares about Malfurion, even if it’s campy
Meanwhile in Pandaria we’re meant to believe that the ten thousand+ year old tactical genius wise elven leader needs a comparative toddler of a human to teach her to be patient and attack at the right moment instead of charging in guns blazing?
