Legion Remix for Brand New Player

Good or bad idea? My partner wants to start playing WoW with me. Lemix is soon and I wonder if it would be a nice way to collect stuff together, but I also worry Lemix is not a good representation of what WoW really is.

Pros I can see:

  • Legion is one of the best stories ever done
  • We both can farm cosmetics that we can use after the event is over
  • They still get a character once its done

Cons:

  • Lemix is vastly different from endgame
  • We would be skipping all the story of Dragonflight and War Within. Keeping in mind this is for a brand new player maybe not a good idea.

It would suck to split my little gaming time between retail and Lemix but definitely willing to for them, but I’d like opinions, specially from people that tested* the event in PTR*

All anyone can offer is an opinion, but it seems to me a bad idea.

Not terribad; just problematic.

Remix will give a truly new player a false idea of what WoW is like, which will take quite a while to correct and work through once your partner gets into the real game.

Remix isn’t “real WoW” like Spring Break isn’t “real life”. A new player won’t really understand the tempo and flow of Retail WoW until they play it.

The idea that Remix might “spoil” a player so that they can’t stand Retail is interesting. I suppose it might happen. But Remix is always temporary, and somehow coming to the expectation that this is how WoW should be would be an unfortunate misconception, and perhaps WoW really isn’t a game for them; better for them to learn and accept it eventually than keep paying for a product they actually don’t enjoy.

Opposite to the previous posters, i think it might be a good idea

One of the main gripes for new players to get hooked to the game is just how many systems there are and how complex they are, and looking at the long treadmill of stuff they have to do to get to the current level becomes overwhelming, and they decide to just play some other game where their time will be more quickly rewarded

Lemix on the other hand is like a quick fix of WoW, a streamlined easy-to-pick-up fun-focused version of WoW where a new player may be able to create a character, play for a few hours and be able to try everything the game has to offer and decide if they like it or not. If they like the game, you might convince them to give the actual game a try though it will take more effort to get to the same level as Lemix

Like any other hobby, for you to get interested you should try a simplified version to see if you like the gist of it and then try the whole package with all the restrictions and requirements it takes

My advice for whenever anyone asks about “is this a good idea for my partner” - is ask your partner!

Give them the wow head or blue post about what Legion Remix is, and just say, “Hey you want to start playing, is this something you’d be interested in playing based on the information, or would you rather just stick to the base game”

And let them decide. Allowing someone the agency to choose how they play the game is the very reason I love WoW.

I think it could actually be really good… As long as the new player understands it’s a twenty year old game, used to be really slow and grindy, and once the event is finished their character is going to be plopped into the SOUP.

In fact it could be really fun to jump in and not worry about Chrome time, zoridormi, hearts of azeroth, and Shadowlands covenants, et. Al.
