Legendary Axe Dot Bug - Frost DK

I posted this in the bug forum and in game but thought I’d post here to hopefully get the bug fixed as soon as possible as it’s the holiday season.

Right now the dot from the axe does not spread through death and decay obliterate cleave.

It currently does for blood and unholy though.

The only work around for frost is to cycle through all the targets which feels terrible during your oblit window.

Frost is struggling in m+ as it is and this is a decent dps loss.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

does glacial advance proc it?

Glacial advance doesn’t, only on primary targets

Pretty sure the WoWhead article covered this a week or two ago; its fairly well known.

In typical fashion, nothing will be fixed for the sake of DKs so don’t get your hopes up. Considering people have been asking for defile graphical changes for well over a year now…

Oddly, Frostscythe applies the DoT to all targets hit.

There is a more depressing option…its called frost scythe. Even Fyr’alath dot damage cant save that talent. I was so excited to see if maybe scythe could hecome relevent when I got the axe. Instead my sim dropped by almost 30k just by swappung to it, even with the axe equipped

It does, however taking frost scythe is such a massive dps loss that its upsetting. I played with it on dummies/sims the night I completed my axe. It was depressing because frost scythe is a cool ability.

How does it work with attacks like howling blast/blood boil cause I noticed the dot is not applied when I use them, seems to work only with melee attacks, is that intended or a bug?

That’s intended.

Don’t think this has anything to do with frost dk, it’s a bug.

Honestly, wouldn’t be surprised at all if they purposely made it where Cleaving Obliterates didn’t apply the dot to secondary targets just to try and get people to take Frostscythe to apply the dot in AoE. They have been desperately pushing that ability for years now but refuse to address the issues with the talent, the issue being that it will never work and should be removed.

Holy revisionist history batman. Let’s look at the facts:

  • Added in Legion
  • Made the Machine Gun build viable (and therefore made Frost viable) in early Legion
  • Was the go-to option for sustainable AoE damage for the spec until 9.0 when they stated ignoring it because people complained they didn’t get to press Obliterate as much as they wanted

And, on top of that, it historically has worked and worked very well. The only reason it has problems today is because of the abysmal current Frost design that puts KM & Obliterate above everything, including keeping the prior implementation of Obliterate passives affecting Scythe as well.

Off topic - how is the axe in PvP?

I hear it can 1 shot someone with good luck from pvp friends but if anything it’s more passive pressure that can’t be cleansed off. But pvp is just a mini game

The axe was just giga buffed in AoE situations to apply up to 50 stacks so this REALLY needs to be fixed/changed. Absolutely no reason that Obliteration cleaves should not apply the DoT.

It already was, at least partially. The problem with Obliterate cleaving it’s just the 3 closest targets, so if things aren’t being repositioned you’ll just reapply the DoT to the same target.

If anything, the new 50 cap is just more of a reason to play Scythe - which is already simming ahead in sustained AoE/M+ to just be used to keep the DoT up.

This requires competent developers, of which Blizz continues to prove they have none.

Problem is nobody wants to play Frostscythe. It is boring and feels like swinging a wet noodle around. Completely limp.

Idek if that is it tbh. They make plenty of sound decisions. It just looks to me like there are literally 0 people on the WoW team who have played a Frost DK this season (or at all really). They just refuse to address pain points for the spec like they don’t even know they exist.
