Has there been any dev chat about rearranging how legacy currencies work? Especially with Shadowlands/BFA/Legion renowns being combined. I don’t keep up with blue posts and Discord and dev chats, but people make it seem like the housing devs are pretty communicative
Like Anima, BFA War Resources, and to a lesser degree, Legion resources don’t drop from raids; most WQ’s got gutted to give rewards like Azerite, which not a single person in the game is farming out in 2026 or, in Legions case, 46g and some ‘wakening essence’ to make legendaries from every WQ
It feels like you’d want to encourage that gameplay loop of running old raids/dungeons, clearing old zones of WQ’s and similar activities to farm out lumber, resources, transmog, mounts, blahblahblah
Anima suuucks to grind out given how much of it we need
I haven’t heard anything about it in the Discords I’m in. There was communication back at the beginning about how they wanted to encourage people to engage with old content, so I think this is probably working as intended, unfortunately.
I do know that people are providing feedback on the PTR about currency costs for some items and Blizzard has reduced some in the past, so maybe they’ll tune the costs for the new stuff too
That said, anima is pretty easily farmed by running the SL raids now. I mentioned in another thread that I kicked over mythic Castle Nathria yesterday. It’s trivial at current gear levels and I came out with ~2250 anima from the bosses.
If you hadn’t finished out renown in your character’s covenant, you also get renown from the boss kills, and of course it counts toward the “kill 5 raid bosses” endeavor task.
Were legacy currencies removed from old WQs? I thought they just nerfed the gold rewards.
Biggest change I’d want, though, is making the rest of this stuff warbound. Especially garrison resources, now that there’s a bunch of new WoD foliage apparently coming in 12.1.5.
Wakening Essence replaced a lot of Legion resources afaik; but if you equip your Order Hall follower you can basically get 250+ resources per world quest, I just farmed out 14,000 in under an hour by clearing all legion zones (no Argus)
BFA resources from WQ’s were always weird low amounts
Anima just feels more scarce than other rewards in SL WQ’s but I’ll jump into the raids and see how I go
And yeah, I wish our currency tab was just merged, you know my account has 454564515 void Marl just let every character use it, one of my addons bugs out the ‘transfer’ option like 50% of the time
For some reason, when Lemix ended we could see 3-4 World bosses on retail Legion being up with 1k resources each, now its down to 1 and most of the time it only gives 250 gold.
Myth raiding is easy now. But it will take a bit of time if doing 3 raids.
Shadowlands Anima is tradable. You can buy a coffer of 1000 anima in Oribos at a 1:1 transfer rate. Mail that to your alt. Or buy them before switching covenants and deposit it in your new covenant sanctum afterward. The vendor is next to the flight master. I actually find it easy to gather as well. Each week you can get about 2000 anime per raid per character and 1500 anima per character from the 3 world bosses. Usually there is often one world quest that gives 500 anima as well. Last week it was the Theater of Pain for me. Plus additional anima from other world quests. I can do Castle Nathria in about 20-30 minutes and most of that is running from place to place. This seems like the easiest currency to obtain now.
BFA Resources are transferable with a tax. Use the transfer system wisely. Many people are using the Mechagon crafting to generate these but I just do the daily emissary quests and can rack them up fairly quickly. The weekly covenant quest to fill your sanctum and paragon chests still offer a decent amount of gold as well.
Legion resources are transferable on the currency page without a tax. So you might think about consolidating on one character to see where you stand. When decor first came out, I ended up with about 280,000 resources on one character. I’ve just been using that ever since.
Garrison Resources aren’t transferable but you gain them automatically every day with a limit of 10,000 collected per character. Just remember to open your chest once in a while. Make sure to increase the size of your garrison chest so it holds up to 1000 resources. This bring your total per character to 11,000.
For anima, there is an heirloom item called Broker Mark of Distinction. You need Renown 80 on any character/covenant to buy it (500g), and then you can use it to instantly boost to Renown 60 with any other covenant, and/or on any other character since it’s warbound. Reaching Renown 60 instantly rewards you with 1000 anima. So if you have any alts that didn’t do SL or all covenants, then buy a bunch of them and boost to 60, get the free anima, then change covenants and do it again. It’s 4000 anima for any alts that didn’t do SL or any covenants yet.
Perhaps you have a bunch of timerunners from Legion Remix? It takes 5 minutes to do the campaign skip and choose a covenant, then use a mark for all 4 covenants and get 4000 anima. If you have the gold, then max out every single covenant on every single Lv60+ character using these marks. Later you can use anima caches to pool it all together.
Beyond that, as others have said, run raids. I think Sepulcher gives 1200 per run, though you’ll only get it once per character per raid per week, not multiple for each difficulty. There’s 3 world bosses a week that give 500, so 1500 per character. Zereth Mortis rares also give a bunch, so if you have any alts you don’t do much on just leave them there, then log into each one every day and do a sweep of all rares.
Legion world quests still drop a lot of resources, ime there’s usually a couple ~1k resource quests up on any given day plus a handfull of 300-400 ones that really add up if you clear them all (which is quite fast because it’s old content and you’re one-shotting everything). I spent a lot of my resources after Legion ended by running pet missions for charms lol, but I was surprised how quickly I replenished my stash when housing hit.
BfA resource rewards are much more anemic, but the prices on BfA decor are also much lower. I don’t think I’ve seen any item cost more than 150.
If you need like 100 lanterns it’s going to be a grind sure, but at some point I think it’s ok for some things to be a grind? If they balance around having no friction in any situation, the balance would be off for the average player.
Anima isn’t bad. You can pull down 2000 a week for doing 4 quests (WQs or weekly repeated quests). Yolo’ing through mythic SL raids is probably 7000 more per week. Maw incursions is also probably about 5000 a week. So is bumming around in Korthia.
If you want the currency without doing the content, be honest enough to just say so.
TBH the only one that really blows is BFA, every other one is turbo easy to get, especially Legion, Legion you can on a good day get like 8k+ on a single character.
I have seen the same reduction in resources. I do not know what others are talking about when they say they see thousands available each day. I do not see the same!
There is one guy that pops up on X once every couple of months. I think he might post in a random discord every couple of months as well. They didn’t even post a link to the Dye changes here in this forum were more people could see it.
I am not sure about every day… However right now, I see:
One world quest in Aszuna with 380 resources
Two world quests in Val’sharah for about 1400 resources,
4 in High Mountain for almost 2000 resources,
2000-2500 in Stormheim across various world quests
Two quests in Surumar for 1400 Resources
And a quest for 900 in the Antoran Wastes
I am looking on my Legion character though. That character is maxxed out on reputation (with dozens of paragon boxes collected) and has completed every quest in the expansion.
Edit: If you don’t need them for crafting, you can also use your Blood of Sargeras to purchase order resources in Dalaran as well. The vendor is in the professions quarter on the corner near the mining and blacksmithing building. 1 blood gets 200 resources.
I just did a world run in Legion. Like Nixë, the character (this character) was Legion maxxed but hadn’t been there in a long time (so there were a lot of accumulated world quests on the board).
I did three zones: Azsuna, Valsharah and Suramar. It took about two hours, most of it travel.
In the process, I killed 28 rares, plus 1 world boss. I didn’t go out of my way to find and kill those; just blew them up in passing. I did one 1 dungeon quest (Black Rook Hold), 1 raid quest (Nighthold), 3 emissary quests (Wardens, Valshara, Suramar) and those gave reputation to give their 3 paragon chests.
I skipped PvP quests and most profession quests, as well as Withered Army Training.
I accumulated 9,970 Order Resources in the process.
Overall, this seems to scale pretty close to other expansion currencies, but clearly nowhere as time-efficient as the golden age of “kill one baddie, loot grillions”.
Since we’re talking about Housing, I also looted a couple of pieces of decor I didn’t have before, in the dungeon and raid. So that’s nice.
