Leeway update

Number 2 is wrong. I’ve tested it. #1 is correct, Which is why the person with 0 ms gets to the destination first because…
On persons screen with 0 ms = 0ms got their first.
On persons screen with high ping = person with 0ms got there first and in some situations at the same time.
Now we do the math and it equates to… The person with 0 ms would get to the destination first.

Test it out yourself. Get 2 accounts on 2 diff pc’s and lag one of them. Even better if you test it on old vanilla type servers.

They’re 2 valid scenarios. Both of them. How did you test it in controlled conditions? Did you use Ventrillo to tell the other person to go then wait 300ms?

Answer in above post  we on similar wavelengths.

I did it myself. 2 pc’s, etc. very easy. Sign up for a free account on a laptop if u don’t have 2 pc’s.

The reason why 2 is still valid, is because neither of those is about leeway. They’re about the difference between when the server receives each go command. If the Slow PC starts 300ms early, they will arrive at the same time. It’s basic network latency.

From my experience, the 300ms input registers 300ms late.

Which is another reason why ppl with low ping can get off more spells per minute over ppl with high ping.

If the command starts on both PCs at the same time yes.

Scenario 2 was the slow PC starting 300ms before the other PC, and the server receiving the commands at the same time.

Scenario 2 never happened.

I mean I’m really surprised this is even a discussion…

It’s horrible and needs to go.

What is phase 2? That when they add BGs? I guess it will only be an issue for Wpvp at launch then…

Still sucks, needs to go.

I pressed the buttons at the same time. Sry, I only have 1 hand right now so I type slow.

And shocker, now that pings are generally much lower across the board it’s much more apparent to everyone, along with spell batching.

Now if they want to keep those lag correcting mechanics that’s fine, they just need to be tuned to account for modern average internet speeds.

eh, I rolled rogue before. I prefer mage, but maybe I will give rogue a shot and use this exploi…erm…emm…“intended” gameplay to…my advantage. clothies and hunters are suckers.

Ranged have so many abilities to deal with things like this. It’s really not an issue if you know how to use all your abilities.

I had incredible internet playing as a tauren warrior in Vanilla proper, and people still managed to kite me in battlegrounds. You just have to get creative and use your full toolkit. That’s how it was.

It was always easier to kill someone with bad internet, whether they benefited from leeway or not.

Melee can still be kited. In the example you gave, try using Cold Snap to get CoC/Frost Nova off cooldown. Use Presence of Mind. Use one of the fire talents that dazes your target. Use Blink when you know their intercept is on cooldown and cast your lowest rank of frostbolt. Use frost armor.

The list just keeps going on and on. People are really overreacting to leeway. It’s not a big deal at all when you utilize your whole toolkit. That’s how it was in actual Vanilla; people who were good at kiting tended to be better PvPers.

You do realise that it’s been in the game since it was introduced, and is still there right?

From the testing ive seen, i dont understand the melee bias. Leeway effects spells too, and as previously stated it only takes effect if both you and your target are moving. If you stand still and cast in a hunters deadzone he will not be able to melee you even if he moves (since you are not moving). Similarly, if you are running away on a mage and the melee is running after you, your frost nova will have an extra couple yards added to its effective radius to snare him.

I think the leeway system could probably use some tweaking. But its not as bad as people make it out to be. People just assume that this is just a huge advantage to melee when really it is a mechanic that is exploitable by all classes in a pvp scenario.

fire talents that daze? you mean 2 percent per talent point up to 5 for a grand total of 10 percent chance while running for my life? no, thats what CoC is for because its reliable…oh wait…that warrior just hamstrung me from over 10 away. k cool. so im slowed and my cold is negated. or im crip poisoned or…etc. cold snap is once every ten mins my friend. in a bg 10 mins is a lifetime. frost armor? dude are you serious with that? ok, cmere guyzzzz hit me first with crip poison and hamstring then my armor will slow you and we can go for a walk together…oh wait u are melee and that defeats the purpose of the whole concept of KITING. frost armor…topkek.

Use Blink.

use blink? i already did after the warrior’s initial charge…we have all these slows because if they dont work we die. cone of old is on a cd and uses lots of mana for a reason. its useful and a powerful mechanic to slow when someones on top of you. you negate that and u just removed one of our most important tools in our toolkit. how about i randomly pick one of your talents/abilities and remove its usefulness and just tell you to use another ability. its genius logic i must say! what? kidney shot doesnt work anymore? oh man u rogues have so many tools in ur kit just use blind. bahahahahahaha. great argument.

I don’t know what to say. It was easy to do in Vanilla. People find a way.

i suppose if you wanna dumb the game down and have exploits and keyboard turning melee have the upper hand chasing clothies, its no big deal…imagine this…mage is running away from rogue…jumps in air, turns and casts cone of cold in mid jump…lands and keeps running…a decent “skill” move…the rogue is slowed and now 10+ far away, but he just hit the mage w leeway and has crip pois…so the mage’s “skill” move is just negated from over 10 away because of leeway. sounds like a quality game, doesnt it? i know i wanna play that all day. riiight. nt.

there was lag in vanilla and the mechanic worked more or less. now its so obviously bad that people are making videos for a reason my dude. its to show how blatantly mistuned it is for current hardware/internet connection speeds etc. wake up.
