i like the idea but then that was a suggestion i made anyway (not to them directly, just here on the forums). i was concerned about people being suddenly phased without their consent. so suggested something like this layering thing. only difference is, i thought they should make it selectable layers from a drop down that would spawn when you clicked the server name after login. i think this means they are not letting you select it, rather they just assign it. .
None of this absolves blizz of a need to interact with us here first and foremost. This is their platform, not a third party of other people making money playing video games on their stream.
So they are betting that the populations of these servers are gonna drop dramatically before phase 2. So what happens if your server doesnt? What if it stays at 8k or whatever? Now what will they do? Im betting they will weasel layering in again.
Layering is simply awesome. Blizzard listened to quality of life arguments!!!
Oh happy day!!
You are one annoying S.O.B.
Sounds really bad imo.
Yeah I’m good. I’ve been waiting for vanilla servers since early Woltk and I was fine with sharding in the starting regions. This, however, is an insult and I won’t be playing.
Classic is only worth playing for the old school community. That won’t exist with layering. Phase 1 is supposed to be the awesome world pvp phase, there won’t be any of that with this nonsense. Letting my sub run out and not looking back on this trash unless Blizzard fixes it.
They will just grab one layer and change the name, and that layer will become a new realm.
well presumably its not a bad thing to have a big population, you just dont want them all in the starting areas at the same time hehe
thats what layering already is. grabbing a layer and renaming it (internally i guess), like stormrage layer 2, etc. since its all on a cloud server, the only difference between stormrage and area52 is they are on different layers.
This will be so exploitable on PVP servers. Please no.
my suggestion is you cant go to different layer if dueling or flagged for pvp
No offense to you, but this is a terrible suggestion. So if I log out in Burning Steppes and log back in and battle.net decides to put me into a new layer, I can’t regroup with my friends until I go back to a main city and wait for 5 mins for my pvp flag to drop?
Me too. The Dev interviews are scattered.
One point they made though, regarding why it’s world wide is for example:
Billy rolls a Dwarf but wants to play in Teldrassil. Bobby rolls a Gnome and wants to do the same. They see each other working their way out the gate to Loch Modan and onwards, and stick together all the way through Loch Modan, Wetlands and down into Menethil Harbor, then across to Rutheran Village, and into Darnassus, then into Teldrassil.
And not once will either of them see the other disappear.
If you only are looting at the instancing solution aspect of sharding and layering. Sure, but an orange and a lemon both have peals and have vastly different usages when cooking.
Again. Do you expect 3k players in any given location? If so where and how long.
Huge differences.
i’m hoping the layer is tagged to your characters on that server, so it persists thru out its life cycle. you’ll always be on that layer.
Then again, the question arises what if everyone just tried to invite everyone else to the same layer in the main city.
crash? hehe
You are blaming people who spoke up about it. Are you mentally ill? We warned you, we where right.
This sounds horrible. In my mind it does the same thing sharding does, but maybe even worse.
I get that it’s ok in the beginning, and I’m ok with it at launch…but all of phase 1?
If it’s gone a LOT sooner than phase 2, I’m ok with it. However, if we have this for 6-10+ months, I’m going to hate it. It destroys so much of the purpose of Classic from my perspective.
The longer it’s in, the worse effects it’ll have. I sincerely hope this isn’t the thing that wrecks Classic for me…
