Last Titan - perfect time for Tuskarr playable race

Hello everyone, and welcome to a loyal and long time players’ plea for Tuskarr to be added as a playable race. I think the upcoming expansion “The Last Titan” is the perfect opportunity for them to do so given this is where we originally met and (for many of us) fell in love with them. Below lists my reasoning for said plea to Blizzard – I hope somehow this will make it to the development team and it’s something they will discuss and consider:

  • Tuskarr have been with us since Wrath of the Lich King (I believe in WC3 as well) and have been a fan favorite since.

  • Returning to Northrend in “The Last Titan” gives us the perfect opportunity to see how they’ve managed to thrive in our absence – perhaps their villages and populations have grown

  • They are native to Azeroth and have a fierce loyalty to family and allies – they would certainly answer Azeroth’s call for aid.

  • Tuskarr have a rich culture in Warcraft and lots of lore to establish them and give them context.

  • Iskaara and various settlements in Northrend already have wonderfully unique music.

  • Tuskarr have updated models for both males and females in Dragonflight.

  • There are no truly snow/ocean-centered playable races in WoW. There are many similarities between Inuit culture in our world that are represented in our beloved Tuskarr.

  • Tuskarr could boast racials that include fishing, cooking, swimming, frost damage or resistance, etc.

  • They would offer a unique model that would make many players happy (yes I know getting armor models to work on new models is an undertaking)

  • They are canonically neutral so a perfect fit for both Horde and Alliance.

  • Multiple classes would fit well – Hunters, Warriors, Shamans (we already have totem models in Dragonflight), Druids, Rogue (see Kilejo NPC in game), Priests, Mages, (a frost mage seems so fitting), Death Knights, Monks, and Warlocks.

  • Casting animations and reactions are already in place with “Blubbery muffin”, but many of us want the full experience of a playable race, especially the customization and ability to wear armor.

In my many years of forum research on this topic, I know there some players who aren’t fans of Tuskarr or would prefer other races instead. I do understand that there are MANY nominations for other races to be added and I hope Blizzard will eventually add them as well. I just happen to be one of many players who just wants this beloved race to be playable  Please see https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/unofficial-playable-tuskarr-discussion-thread/1683485 for a more comprehensive discussion on adding Tuskarr as a playable race in WoW.

Anything that’s not a new elf variant at this point.

I agree! I think they would be so much fun to play! I envision some epic Druid forms! :0)

This is crazy timing! I just found this when it was posted 18hrs ago and I am already 5 hours deep into my own Tuskarr rabbit hole. I was playing through Dragonflight (which I missed when it came out) and I couldn’t stop thinking about the Tuskarr in Northrend, especially given the context that we’re going back there for TLT. I have lots of thoughts and I’m gonna come back to this and share once I’m able to put my ideas down on paper in a way that makes any amount of sense, lol. Thanks for sharing and for linking that other Tuskarr discussion!

The Kelfin have been sitting in Org’s harbor since BFA waiting for an invite in. As well, think there are maybe three Kelfins near the beach in Undermine.

I agree & disagree.

I agree that we should get Kelfin customization, but it shouldn’t be an entirely new race. Just like Mag’har should have been Orc customization, and Kul’tiran a body type for regular Humans.

I don’t see the hype. To me they’re on the same level as Jinyu, etc. They’re “okay” but I don’t see the need for them to be a fully playable race.

If anything, when I think of Northrend and the game’s current customization - I think of the Vrykul. They already have a bunch of appearances and classes available in game.

I prefer races to be new and unique. Not to be the same old meme that has been spammed for ages. The Tuskar is an example of a meme-race, not an actual serious contender for a playable race.

Oh that would be nice. Tuskarr could have interesting Druid forms too.

I agree! I think they would be a very unique race

Nah, this makes too much sense. We’re gonna get some dev’s deviantart self insert race.

Yes of course!!! I have seen so many others who would absolutely love Tuskarr. I just want to be a Tuskarr Resto shaman, summon ancestors and heal people with the waves. It would be an instant main for me! I just hope Blizzard takes this plea seriously. I have hundreds of blubbery muffins in my inventory but I would love the chance to actually customize and truly immerse myself in the Tuskarr fantasy! There will always be players who don’t take them seriously but you can never avoid that entirely.

It would also be a good time to make drakonids playable given Northrend’s ties to dragonkind

Maybe this time they can make a draconic/reptilian player race with proper transmog support

Okay, I tried to organize my thoughts and lore digging into something readable lol. I also had to wait for a book to come in so I could check my sources. These are the main reasons I think tuskarr could realistically become playable.

Key lore points from the book Exploring Azeroth: Northrend (2022):

  • Brann & fam return to Northrend post-Shadowlands and note that the tuskarr drove the kvaldir out of Pal’ea (west Borean Tundra) and are rebuilding it bigger than it was before

  • Tuskarr reclaimed Coldrock Quarry, a sacred site where they carved ancestor statues from “living rock”

    • These statues appear all over Northrend and were likely used to mark fishing routes (there are also some in Dragonflight)

    • The blue dragonflight previously took over Coldrock Quarry to harvest that same living rock and create surge needles, which were used to redirect ley lines under Malygos (implying the material has arcane energy)

    • In the book, they note “Pal’ea has the biggest stone elder I’ve seen. Maybe that’s what helped them regain their home.” I think this points us to the tuskarr getting their power from the statues and now that they have the quarry back, they can harness that power and expand.

  • Tuskarr tell them they’re going to take Kaskala back (their former capitol in Borean Tundra)

    • According to the book, tuskarr are not vengeful but they believe in retribution against those who have killed their kin.
  • Brann’s account takes place ~6+ years before The Last Titan. That’s plenty of time for the tuskarr to continue expanding, rebuilding, and growing in influence.

Interesting Points / Speculation:

  • The book describes the “Frozen Sea” as iceberg-filled waters stretching south of Northrend toward the Maelstrom. Some icebergs are as big as islands, and the tuskarr are the only known masters of navigating those waters.

  • Hrothgar’s Landing (formerly the tuskarr village of Tualiq) is a large, ruined settlement at the northernmost edge of Northrend. It has three large tuskarr statues. They could have reclaimed it if they were able to push out the kvaldir from Pal’ea.

  • There’s a turtle boat (Young Belvo) in Iskaara that circles Azeroth and stops in multiple past expansion zones, reinforcing that tuskarr travel far beyond Northrend and are globally connected.

My far-out theory: Somewhere in the Frozen Sea or further north is an island-sized iceberg that is home to a larger tuskarr population. I could see this coming as a patch after the launch of TLT, but I believe that’s when we’ll get the tuskarr as a playable race. That’ll also give them a starting zone.

Okay that’s all for now! Thank you for reading if you made it this far! I’m excited to play as a tuskarr one day!

Why does everyone forget that it’s stated in-game the Tuskarr die if they leave Northrend’s climate?

The notion they can’t leave Northrend has been debunked or changed. The questline that comes from (The Jig is Up) is given by a slave trader (Annie Bonn), so it’s possible she just mistreated tuskarr slaves and they died. Regardless, they’re found in Dragon Isles, Broken Isles, and Zandalar, and some of them in warm climates.

We at Blizzard have heard you.

And we have decided to release the Tusk’dori, the missing link between when Tuskarr turned into elves.

Blah. Retcons rear their ugly head again.

Then again that’s nothing new. Even the Argent Tournament retconned the language barrier between the factions.
