Last names

Its already easy enough to circumvent the naming system. Adding a second naming field just makes this even easier.

The only issue I can see is when they display along with titles. I can’t imagine seeing someone walking by like:

“Bananacakes Buttmark, Champion of the Frozen Wastes”

So much text everywhere…

I would love to have last names! I would finally be able to name myself “Dripik Dripik”.

Dibs on Sir Clark, of the House of Kent.

It bugs me quite a bit to have a mismatch between the actual character name and the RP profile. It’s one thing if they’re just using the character name as a first name, MAYBE with a spelling alteration if necessary, and filling in a last name. But seeing people with generic PvP-server style names who then fill in a normal name on the RP profile? It’s not super common, but I can’t deal with that.

I saw a character on FF14 named Sourpunch Yeetcannon, so hell, why not.

Last names can make for some awesome meme characters.

I find all sorts of gems in FFXIV

in the game the PC is called the “warrior of light”.

I saw a charcter named “Wario OfLight” that had a yellow hat and shirt, purple pants, and green shoes for his xmog

Probably my favorite meme name ive seen.

As far as wow goes I want an ’ for all my troll names more than anything. But last names would be cool so races could identify as different clans, tribes, houses, etc

I believe surnames would actually be a very functional tool. While they would be cool on their own, they might be the key to server mergers this game has needed badly for years.

By having surnames you could circumvent player name redundancy.

I find this one odd. My night elf priestess on Moonguard is named Whispsong, but her RP name is Shadina Whispersong. I had to do something like that because both Whispersong and Shadina were taken as actual OOC names. Do you take issue with that?

I honestly didn’t think about this and that’s such a good point. +1

I don’t want last names because it’s hard enough just to think of a first name. Also adding surnames makes each name not unique.

It’d certainly be a way to lessen having to use extra characters or symbols to squeeze through a name. WoW has been out for so long it’s almost impossible to get a concise name anymore.
