Seems like a half assed implementation then. They only way both sides can understand each other is for both to have the buff. Sure some people may not want to see the opposite faction chat, but why not make it an simple toggle in the settings?
That was the whole point of the potion though. It was created to make up for the loss of a RP add-on, but it is supposed to make sure that ONLY people who want to participate can.
This is not them trying to open the door for factions to talk to each other willy nilly.
That’s why I said they should make it a toggle. In fact I think they should just make a single toggle to enable/disable cross faction chat… not this potion non-sense crap. At least for warmode off/RP cross faction chat should be enabled by default.
This could be a choice in the future. Considering the immediate abuse from the potion, I don’t see it as likely. Plus a toggle doesn’t make a good gold sink.
It’s a raw deal for people that enjoyed speaking the enemy faction’s language but it also is how they intended it to work if they really did hotfix it. Must have happened this morning, it was still working last night.
Cause the way It was working didn’t say in the tooltip so it was broken… you weren’t suppose to be able to speak common, only to understand which means alli shouldn’t understand horde without the elixer which in this case they could before the fix. It was suppose to be a opt in and opt out option and not forced to understand the opposite faction.
There are million other things that could serve as a goldsink. Also, if they wanted to they could have an NPC that took some fee to enable this ability.
Sure the potion was bugged for a few days that allowed you to do this even though the potion never existed till like a week and your saying that was the only fun in the game for you? What did you resub to use it or were you playing before without it… if it was the only thing fun for you why didn’t you go off playing other games before this potion came out
It’s not supposed to be something you turn on and it just stays on until you turn it off like turning off XP. This was so that roleplayers could join a RP event that included the other faction and still be able to participate. If they added an NPC like you described then people would have to run back to the NPC after the buff wore off because it’s not supposed to be permanent and it is supposed to be limited because, once again, they don’t want to open it up to just communicate with the other faction whenever for any reason or no reason.
This potion is the greatest thing to happen to the roleplaying community in quite a while. It’s a good compromise until the day we’re all ready to end the language barrier permanently. (If ever.) Please let’s not be ungrateful…
Why not ? Not all of us are buying into this faction war stuff. They way I see it, it just divides player-base in half. Why not make it a permanent option that can also be permanently turned off if someone doesn’t like hearing from opposite faction? It probably only made sense in the first years of world of warcraft. But now with cross faction battle.net chats and no restriction of the opposite faction character on the same realm, there no point in keeping the outdated chat restrictions.
Cross-faction chat is still heavily abused in PVP. This bug was quickly put to further this abuse. The bug with the potion proves the WOW community isn’t ready for full-time community with the other faction.
