I created two characters - one on US server and one on OCE server (I live in Thailand). I have 210ms on US and 150-160 on OCE. When I do dungeons or battlegrounds everything works perfectly but the moment I enter arena on any of those characters I get about 500ms and it just completely unplayable. Any ideas how to solve it? Kinda sucks to think that I wasted so much time leveling and gearing them up and not being able to play.
The only way you can affect latency from your house is to either use a VPN or another network, like mobile tethering. There are lots of overcrowded routes around the world at the moment due to the typhoon hitting Taiwan and the Red Sea submarine cable being cut. All that traffic is now on other routes they wouldn’t normally use.
It somehow seems to be fixed
I’m having this same issue the last couple of weeks. I’ve played on oceanic servers for years and years with lag consistently around the 150-200 mark. The last couple of weeks however my lag in RSS only, has been around 400.
It makes it unplayable. It is only a recent issue. Nothing on my end has changed.
It wouldn’t be a change at your house, it would be a change in the routing the ISP relies on. Blizzard can’t investigate connection issues in a one-on-one setting because they make games, not the internet. How you reach the Google datacenters is between you and your ISP.
The only time I have latency issues is in RSS. It’s not an all the time thing.
I’m having the same problems, it’s extremely frustrating when my global MS goes up to 1500 every time I set foot in the arena. I don’t know what to do anymore, my game time is going away and I can’t play the game, it’s so frustrating.
Mines not that bad but trying to do anything is just impossible. I don’t understand what has changed. Like I said it feels like I’m now connecting to an east coast US server whereas before it had to of been a Cali server.
It doesn’t matter if I switch Australian servers or not. I’m kicking half way through casts and they are getting cog off it. I’m losing to healers that are just turreting heals because I can’t kick or cc them properly.
I’m really at a loss as to what to do.
My home and world latency haven’t changed outside of arenas. They are both still 25ms. However, in arenas my world jumps to 400ish while my home stays at 25. It has something to do with the way Aus servers are talking to US servers. I just logged onto Tich, and my MS was over 900…Thats not normal. It has to be something blizzard has changed on their end.
Edit: Just did a bg that was on Australian realms, and my MS was 26. It’s only when I have to connect to a US realm that it tanks.
Elocin,
I am on OCE server, every shuffle i enter my ping sky rockets to 500+ ping… there is nothing wrong with my house internet. I have even hotspotted off my 5g phone network and still the same thing happens in shuffle… What has changed in the game lately to cause such high pings for OCE servers joining arenas with US servers as host?
The routing peer between OCE and Las Vegas is reporting high pings and timeouts. They’re a company routing incoming traffic (probably at Los Angeles, since that’s a landing point for a submarine cable from OCE) to other services in the US.
Like I said, all you can do is complain to your ISP about a poor connection to US-based services. ISPs can easily reach out to routing peers since that’s part of their business and concern for customers. Asking Blizzard to address this is like asking your dentist to get construction completed on a road you take to their office.
So not much we can do but wait it out it seems. I can complain all day but they aren’t going to do anything for me.
