Either way, Mage is still as bad as it was in Legion.
Did we play the same expansion? Mages had a top spec for pretty much the entirety of Legion except in ABT (and even that was more about class mechanics than output).
Latest patch notes seem odd though. Huge reductions to the snares and their uptime especially from AoE, a small baseline nerf to CmS and FOrb and a strange little 2% buff to our damage aura. Guess Blizzard is fine with ranged being mid-pack for the next raid tier as well.
Pvp wise frost mage is gonna be crap now. I read the new patch notes . Nerfing snares and some damage . Good thing I have multiple 120s . With all the gap closers classes have the frost mage will die easy now if they keep the ptr changes .
Haha, what a joke. The only changes mages are getting is big fat nerfs. 8.1 is going to gut frost in pvp, and currently we have all the pitchfork crybabies trying to get fire gutted as well.
If blizzard nerfs both these specs I'm going to go play another game till they figure out how to stop catering to the forum ragers.

Why bother playing a mage at all.
At this point I am starting to wonder if a spec being completely ignored might be preferred over receiving attention. Frost's chill effect is being gutted. Shadow is looking to receive changes that won't make it feel any better. Azerite armor still looks terrible despite the proposed changes. Professions still have the polish of an early beta stage.
Maybe neglect is preferred over attention. I am starting to think I should also take that view and apply it to my subscription.

Blizzard has no idea what they are doing. Instead of giving back some utility to the classes, they take them away. Frost is all about slows and roots, and they are taking that away. I was expecting some damage nerfs to Frozen Orb, sure, and maybe some to Comet Storm (but they need to revert the nerfs to PvP if that's the case), and some to the slows, but not THIS MUCH. This is just plain overkill.
So this is what, the second or third time they are nerfing comet storm and frozen orb? Without any buffs to compensate. Ty buzz, super fantasticcc

Omg a lock!we never see them anymore since they got nerfed to oblivion during the beta, you sir are a rare sight.
The recent PTR changes to Frost make me wonder what Blizzard believes the core strength of that spec is supposed to be.
I have not been able to download the PTR since those changes but are the slows from Blizzard, for example, per damage tick? If not Blizzard becomes fairly useless as AoE as the mobs can run out of it lickety split.

I would assume that's how it works, because that would make sense, but I'm not DLing the PTR to try it myself.
PTR has been down since those changes were announced, so we can't test them. Still, I would assume the Blizzard slow is per tick, but mobs can still just step right out of it - the radius is quite small. The 1.5 seconds still makes the slow part of the spell almost useless.

Well, speaking to the radius of the Blizzard spell, maybe they should make it as large as the Druids Starfall spell. We need the radius of Blizzard larger to kinda counter the fact it'll only apply the slow for 1.5 seconds. They probably won't do that and by the way, why does Starfall get such a large radius anyway??? I've always been jealous of that!
