Lack of changes, is this it?

So… with the last couple of weeks being very slim with changes to the class at all, does that mean this is it?

The SV spec is still a mess. Sure it’s not as bad as on reveal but honestly… that is not an achievement. The spec and tree is still sorely lacking and several leagues below most if not all other specs. And the class tree, while better due to some cost reductions and moving around of talents is still very lackluster with a bunch of dead talents, still overbudgeted and just very unintuitive. It’s the same class we have minus a whole lot of things. Whereas most other (if not all?) classes have gotten improved on and added upon.

And this most recent post by Nimox just makes me more or less give up. I can accept a badly designed tree, if they are bad at designing a few decent trees for hunter fine. Perhaps it will get improved upon eventually. But this latest change to binding shot just straight up proves that they have zero clue as to what needs to get the hunter class on par with even the second lowest classes. There is one reason to bring hunters to any group content currently, and it just got removed and the reason given was a cop-out (for lack of allowed to use a stronger word) full of BS. And the “suggestion” to use High explosive trap or freezing trap is just an insult, not even remotely comparable to binding shot.

Sorry to say but the move over to beta, lack of any actual changes being made (not even a word on utility for hunters, laughable) and now this recent change just makes me so happy I’ve not pre-ordered DF. Plenty of other good games out there. I will come back when Microsoft is behind the wheels. Perhaps they can get some decent people to design the next expansion. Or at least people in touch with the class they are supposed to design.

Edit: sorry for the negative post. Just feels like they’ve had months and months of positive feedback and great discussions (and bad ones for sure but mostly good) and they still manages to fudge up so bad. What is even the point? They release bad spec/class trees and improve them slightly in some areas but just completely ignore other areas (utility… nessingwary? Dead talents and still a whole bunch of 2-3 point talents) and keep moving the class into a worse spot in DF. Hunter is already a questionable class to bring to any relevant content and it sure aint going to improve if this is what they want hunter to be.

Just to second this, all 3 of the specs feel extremely clunky on ptr (probably sv the clunkiest but the others aren’t great by any means). I know we only have access to level 60 on ptr but compared to the other classes I’ve tried hunter feels very rough. And that’s me ignoring the obvious utility problem.

I’m not really sure how to respond.

I don’t think that’s the case. A lot of classes have still been getting updates going into the Beta. Just compared to what we’ve been getting before comments have been sparse. Thought there are always other reasons for a lack of major tuning updates.

But saying that feels like I’m telling you not to be upset with the current state of Hunters in the DF Beta. You have every right to be. Especially if you’re taking part in the testing process. Critical comments are how we got the changes we did.

Honestly, I’m just getting the same vibes I got throughout Shadowlands. I don’t think any of the devs actually play Hunter. Sure, they know how it works, but don’t have the experience of actually playing the class.

  • The talents started off extremely clunky and that’s an understatement. They’ve gotten better over time, but still a ways off from being what I would personally consider good.
  • A couple months ago, they finally addressed the fact that Animal Companion has been bugged since it was added to the game. They said something along the lines of not knowing when it will be fixed. However, it’s still a talent that seems to work the same way as the current bugged version.
  • They’ve pulled enough ripcords at this point that pet specs should be universal. Hunters should be able to choose between Ferocity, Cunning and Tenacity on any pet model. I vaguely remember someone from Blizzard saying it was something they were considering and that seemed to be the end of it. (Additionally, if they really want to saddle Beast Mastery Hunters with the innate downsides to playing a pet class, they should add a fourth pet spec that only BM can use.)

I am thankful I’ve not pre-ordered!

I did soley for the Collectors box, as it’s the last one that will fit on my shelf.

With the state of all hunter specs, doubt I’ll be playing it.
