So I like the KUI nameplates for the NPCs, and I know you do it by going into CVar options and ticking "Always Show friendly NPCs’ nameplates.
But doing that creates ALOT of clutter when there was random good-for-nothing NPCs running around, and I have the game normally set to “only show Quest/shop NPCs” but there doesn’t seem to be anyway I can edit it so I only get KUI names on the Quest and Vendors, just all or nothing.
Am I missing something or is this just how it is?
I’ve been messing with this for ElvUI for the last few days and I’m told that Blizzard doesn’t expose the functionality of NPCs in the API (probably an anti-botting measure) BUT there are a few ways around that problem that I’m exploring.
First of those is parsing the tooltip of the NPC’s nameplate for clues as to whether that NPC is interactable, a merchant, a questgiver, a questgiver with an active reward pending, a host of other things.
If/when I figure it out, I’ll post back, but as of right now the visibility options available in the default UI for showing NPCs don’t appear to be accessible to user-written add-ons.
