The K’thir would be an awesome race to have. They would fit perfectly with the old god themes from war within. They could be an allied race that both factions but I think they would fit better for the alliance simply because we already have Void Elves and do not have the animation/rigging of the undead.
There is a trend of adding allied races that cover the animations that another faction doesn’t have:
- Alliance has Night Elves, horde has Nightborne
- Horde has Blood Elves, Alliance has Void Elves
- Alliance have dwarves, and now the horde can access those animations via the Earthen
Though, since the Earthen are allied races for both horde and alliance, it might be best to just give the K’thir to both as well.
The lore reasons could be similar to Worgen where they now live with the leftover curse of being able to transform into a faceless one. Just make sure to give people to option to transform instead of forcing them to transform during combat.
Kthir are a type of Faceless One. They aren’t cursed people.
Their loyalties are to the Old Gods. They were all hostile to us during BfA and have no reason to join either faction, on top of being thematically redundant when void elves and priests already cover Void and Old God themes.
The Alliance has one cursed race with a transforming ability and isn’t in need of another, and we have dracthyr as another race that can take on a second form out of combat.
If you could play as a k’thir that could look like a human at all times, that would completely defeat the purpose of devoting an entire race slot to the former instead of just making them playable through a toy, and the latter is more likely to happen if it hasn’t already.

That being said… there’s better races to add than K’thir…
