Did the requirements to join a premade group cause these types of large RPs to fall out of favor or did people just lose interest in them ?
Kingdom RPs are still around though it more so pertains to the Alliance/Stormwind… We’re still in a new expansion so people are gearing and doing stuff like that. Same with travel rp.
Premade Groups are only typically used during large events that end up with phasing. The Dance of the Dead, ToA, World’s End Carnival, etc. Everything else is normally just show up. Unless by groups you mean guilds. And then of course you’ll want to join a guild for guild specific rp.
I think the OP means the ‘Gilneas/Kingdom/Travel/etc’ RP that used to be advertised in general chat/trade. Iirc they were more of a pick up/single session thing and I’m not quite sure when they died out.

I do travel RP out in the world with people I already know, but I don’t know of any pickup group travel RP.

I think those kinds of RPs were more popular with younger crowds, and I feel like young kids these days don’t really RP on WoW that much anymore. As sad as it is to say… we’re just getting older! I actually don’t know the last time I ran into someone on this server younger than like… 20. That’s not to say they don’t exist, but they’re much rarer now.
Most of these RPs died out as a lot of us sort of got older and began to get a bit more into the nuance of the setting itself versus making stuff up.
I have fond memories of like old school Gilneas Kingdom RP particularly the ones that were basically War of the Roses on crack, but I 100% recognize that sorta thing ten years ago was cringe to a lot of RPers then and probably even more so now.
But I’ve seen a fair few pop up here and there, so clearly they still happen and I liked how they encouraged people to use areas that weren’t just Stormwind.
