I get each new group of Dev’s has some sort of perverse need to crap on prior expansions and features. I don’t understand why. Ego? I dunno. But killing off Pet Battling?
Can some dev explain why and try and convince us it’s not just some ego trip on their part to kill off yet another thing a part of the player based enjoyed?
I mean seriously, the list of things you’ve torn out, or broken and not been able to fix, from prior expansions is getting longer every month.
Nintendo patent, maybe, or perhaps they know people like collection but not the copy paste battles.
They just don’t want to spend money on development for it anymore even though lots of people like it. Welcome to Blizz… I mean Acti… I mean Microsoft.
Are there a lot of people who regularly do pet battles in the current expac? Like, I’ll grab all the pets I want once but it’s not a regular thing for me. The world quests and trainers for challenges sure.
But it doesn’t seem like a super high traffic form of content.
Man I would love if a bunch of large corporate companies just stood together and collectively sued Nintendo over their pet battling patents.
Would be like that one scene in Airplane where everyone is lined up to beat up someone.
Blizzard turning into Bungie and doing a WoW Content Vault is the other option.
They have altered the deal, pray they dont alter it further. At least we keep what we have.

Same yeah, I don’t love or really care about pet battles. I do know several people who still really enjoy it. Kinda cool they’ve been part of a few “secrets” etc., gave a reason to go and do them. Otherwise I agree.
The patent might have some part of it like you said, thought on that as well, but I’d guess it is more of a convenient excuse. No doubt this has been planned for awhile.
It wasn’t necessarily hailed and loved by everyone, but it was a cool flavor part of the game. Kinda like archaeology. Not thrilled to see it go.
This apparent abandonment of pet battles has nothing to do with Nintendo. People really should look up what those patents were actually for. This has all the appearances of just giving pet battles the archaeology treatment due to a lack of engagement.
What I mean is they could have done the CV instead of just not doing it anymore.
Like, no more pets. At all. “Oops, WoW takes up too much space, lets delete battle pets”.
It’s more so that AND the fact that Nintendo is extremely litigious.
The seeds for this were sown in Karesh having zero pet battles (wild or NPC challenge) and basically nobody caring. They often prune game features that require dev time but have little payout. I’m sure it will suck for some, but low-number features eventually get Archaeology’d.
Because this company is becoming extremely lazy and is trying to cut costs wherever they can. It’s the same reason “Playable Amani” actually means “Darkspear get a green coat of paint” and not actually “Playable Amani.”
It’s a company in decline.
I didn’t pet battle much, but I have a lot of sympathy for you guys.
It literally cant have anything to do with the patent.
Its simply “Not enough engagement”. Its just one of those things we didnt do enough, and the devs dont want to waste time on stuff ‘we dont do’.
Ye, I get you. I think most people just liked it for the collection aspect less so the copy pasted set of 10 abilities where you use the same 5 pets to win 90% of fights.
They are cute, though. I just wish I didn’t have to resummon them every 2 minutes.

Again, go actually read what the patents were about and you’ll realize it doesn’t even touch on how pet battles work.
It’s becaues most people just arn’t interested in pet battling.
Alot of people like to collect them but the actual battling most just arn’t interested in it, they tried for quite awhile to get people interested in it with the celestial tourny and the pet battle dungions but even those that were intereted in doing them did they either once and got the rewards or just found that they either way to hard unless you went in with a very unique setup or just found them boring/lacking.
I get why they won’t be focusing on it since very few people engage with it regually and is prob just not worth the funding to really keep it going and trying to find more ways to get people interested other then if it was another way to get gear and even then people would complain on mass because now they would feel forced to do it for the gear.
Didn’t realize that is patentable…
