Kicked from groups for explaining tanking mechanics

Why would the tank not have threat?

Why would he not have rage? Both Druids and Warriors should have more than enough rage going into a fight to cast a Demoralizing Roar/Shout to get snap aggro, then plenty rage for successive casts thereof.

I’ve been tanking dungeons up to 60, and continue to do so while farming pre-raid BiS. We AoE almost every pack.

If you, as a tank, can’t hold aggro, it’s more often your fault than not. Excluding exceedingly rare circumstances (several crits in a row from DPS and several misses/parries/dodges/resists in a row from the tank), a tank can hold aggro just fine even with the DPS starting to DPS right away.

Don’t need to be in a guild, in voice, or in a group specifically made for AoE farming.

It helps, but it’s not necessary. As long as the tank knows how to play, there shouldn’t be a problem.

I imagine the reason they’re getting kicked is because they’re not wanting to play the game “correctly.”

Ignoring the fact there really isn’t a “correct” way to play, the reason so many people are AoE farming is because it’s faster and easier than marking, CCing, and single-targeting down mobs one at a time.

Joining a group and expecting any of them to take you seriously when you say “stop AoEing, we need to CC” as they AoE mobs down in seconds without issue.

I’ll just say that if you were kicked out of… say… 109 groups for the same actions,I’m willing to bet you did something wrong.

People don’t like to be told they are wrong and some people are happy to be playing poorly. Assuming you where being tactful and diplomatic about this I would suggest that you just find another guild with like minded people and move on.

You might want check out the “TDP” videos that Preach made in the Classic Beta they all have some great info about tanking in Classic.

Don’t lose heart, fellow warrior!

Start pugging! Every time another player impresses you, compliment them and tell them you’re adding them to your friends list. Do this, and you’ll quickly have a short list of players to draw from when you want to dungeon crawl.

Healers and tanks have a special bond. They’ll understand and back you up because you’re respecting their mana. You’ll know more healers than any other class. DPS who know you will invite you to all kinds of content.

That said, be flexible! AOE grinding can be very effective in dungeons after you’re geared and have a couple levels over the content you’re running. In these circumstances, aoe work will keep your gains high. It is also a fairly cavalier playstyle and can be a lot of fun. Snares and roots make it possible, so you’ll want a mage, but the fury spec talent can do this also.

You’re not always going to have all the aggro and that’s ok. Other classes have skills to help dump aggro, avoid danger, or soak some punishment. Prioritize. Watch your healers mana and check in with them regularly. If you and the heals are a unified front, the dps will listen.

Lastly, stay positive! Mind that you aren’t coming off too strongly. We’re all going to screw up. Sometimes the screw ups wind up more fun. People don’t like negative feedback, but if you can keep it constructive and give props where due, you’ll have an army of friends in no time.

Good luck!

That’s not true at all. Like, not even remotely true.

OP. I noticed this problem immediately doing the first dungeon on my warrior. I said it once, “if mobs don’t hit me I can’t gen rage and use my abilities to gain threat so stop hitting mobs first or you’ll die”. They still ignored me. I spent most of the time hitting trash with little to no rage. At least the bosses were okay. I saw a guild name once called 5 sunders lol. You should start your own guild

Include BRD in that. Half cleared it in a little over an hour with no CC except a stun here or there.

Why are you holding back?

You can literally 2h melee cleave all the way through at least Scarlet Monestary.

OP … just a suggestion, I would seriously consider rerolling your warrior to either Human or Dwarf. Night Elves bring no benefits for warrior tanks.

I know someone really close to me (my dad) who is a very helpful and smart person and just wants to help people and he likes to explain things. Nothing wrong with that right? Ok well, he talks a lot. After 10 minutes of trying to explain you how to get from his house to the nearest gaz station…i honestly don’t even feel like driving anymore and feel like just getting a cab.

See what im saying here? The intent is good, but the delivery of the information is just horrendous and boring.

OP, reevaluate your situation.

Yesterday had my first tanking experience in WC, with a rogue 5 levels higher than me. He lead the way and I really couldn’t get aggro on the mobs he focused - major rage shortage - so my role ended up being to pick up the loose enemies and keep them off the squishies as best as possible. Worked out fine and we had a good time. Maybe you just need to relax a little. Sometimes things get a bit messy and its ok

There are groups of morons in Classic; you’re better off in a new guild.

I can relate to the feeling of demoralization, though…I’d recommend taking a break and coming back to a new guild.

That said, just tank and do your best without being too bossy. Ask once to wait for aggro, and if people don’t wait, blacklist them or ignore them. That’s all you can do.

Tanking on my druid, I find it easier to just mark skull and keep going. If people pull aggro I work with it and maybe mention it once or twice, but ultimately you need to be filtering who you group with.

Just don’t explain anything. People will be asking for advice when it matters. I’ve ran most low-level dungeons without a tank or a healer and it`s been fine so far. No wipes, no anything. When the content starts getting harder, people will get tired of wiping and they’ll start caring and listening to that stuff. Until then, the content is so easy that it doesn’t matter if everyone’s splitting aggro between each others.

This I have absolutely no rage issues as arms and have all the rage I could ever need. The problem is the DPS not waiting for the mobs to hit me.

With bad players it takes longer, because bad players wipe a lot.

Also not american, so not a boomer.

This guy doesn’t get it. The tank tanks. Not the dps. F*ck me.

I was trying to be supportive before, but seriously dude, you have sooooo many threads just complaining for the sake of complaining, Sounds like you are being unwilling to adapt to ANYTHING you don’t like, instead of complaining CONSTANTLY, grow a pair and learn to cope with it.

Seriously, you have made so many posts about how so and so isn’t playing the way you like and complaining about it as if there is something that is going to be done about it.

Save your energy and do something productive instead, and if you really want to complain about the game that much, it might be time for you to move in, it sounds like you absolutely hate everything about it.

Honestly, let the DPS pull… Don’t engage or even try to save them if they want to be tanks, let them tank… They’ll learn

So you hold agro with just thunderclap? Threat generation should be back to what it was in 1.12 which is far less than BFA, and like 10 less than MoP. There is a reason we had a 3 second rule in Vanilla.

Max ranks Thunder Clap has the same threat value as rank 3 Sunder

Demo shout is way down the list.

Google ‘classic threat values’ and look at the list on Wowhead
