Kevin Jordan on Preach and Ion Interview

No matter how good the rewards get, you will always want more and more and each time that hit will be less and less.

This is what im talking about designed into a corner, unless they make a completely new game that does not have this over fixation on rewards over content they will never get out of this hole.

Former WoW designer, notably he was the class designer for the classes during Burning Crusade.

What rewards in Shadowlands via rep outweigh those from BC? Legit question , I don’t know, but I recall BC having shoulder enchants and I don’t recall any specific power gain from rep beyond Ve’nari, but even she is account bound.

I just read that he was the person that designed the original talent trees for Vanilla-Wrath.

Is this the react to Asmon reacting to Preach v Ion or different one so I have a frame of reference?

This is subjective, but i could argue the cosmetics being a higher graphical quality makes them better.

Also the venari change came in later and does not fix its underlying issue in fact i could argue this fix is just entrenching yourself even deeper into the rewards problem.

I was hoping for an objective comparison between stat gains, but I agree cosmetics and aesthetics persist beyond the expansion cycle. However, Ogri’la rep and Netherwing reps feel on par or worse (Ogri’la) than Ve’nari

The whole Interview felt like softball questions the whole time like kissing his butt I tuned out halfway through

The whole stat gain is also a very big problem. It just makes it worse, with a cosmetics only approach the content can be boring and you can just not do it, with the performance mindset (and like i said this min max culture is invasive, if you want to do anything group based you have to participate in it) putting stats behind a piece of content you dont enjoy is exactly what blizzard does.

I’m tracking. I do think that concept would extend to any reward gated beyond stuff a player doesn’t enjoy fun. But I agree that there’s probably less a sense of ā€œneedā€ from a gameplay performance standpoint

Great points and you are a valued member of the WoW community.

Ogri’la is still, to this day, the absolute worse reputation.

Again, im not advocating for no rewards. Just less of a focus on that and more on better content, imagine for example the same exact rewards for shadowlands but each rep was different.

Exactly rep needs to be feel awesome again.

I haven’t felt any need to reputation grind in SLs. Like, at all. Not even for cosmetics.

Don’t even touch Ven’ari.

His whole thing was that ION is analytics driven and that they focus too much on egg-timer as he put it (weeklies, mission table, things that are on a timer that just has you log in, do for a few minutes then leave…) content with rewards first, and little focus on actual content to create a sociable experience that creates memories. He really talks about some interesting things in a few of his videos.

His video also with Asmongold and Rich, he touches on some points.

Watch his BFA reactions. Calls Ion out a little and how he behaves like a robot (not exact wording) that has trouble connecting with the audience. How the people making the game now are or were players and aren’t actual developers so they are not aware of how to create meaningful, challenging, yet, fun content.

Unfortunately his philosophy is not adaptable to retails current player base I feel. But he does bring up neat insight.

Especially with how he used to act when CM’s would bring back feed back and criticisms and they’d just say like ā€˜ā€˜expletive off’’ :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure I’m tracking here. Same exact rewards as what? And the rep was different reference what?

Lol man I swear I know this sounds like I’m trying to be contrarian, but I don’t know what you’re comparing these to.

The same mounts, toys, recipes.

Different in the sense they arent all just world quests, it feels like reps are more 1 rep with 4 bars. Example: The necrolords could be an arena and gladiatorial rep, night fae could be more similar to the pandaria farm etc.

I am glad this hasnt applied to me. I have no interest in having top ilvl gear or ā€œbisā€. I care more about aesthetics and the experience largely. I dont raid beyond for story and to at least do it once because the ilvl side of the grind for me is boring.

Responding to the concept you present as its important and not criticizing is just throwing in my unsolicited opinion. I suppose if you are in it for transmog you are chasing gear…so same umbrella but different as well.
