Hello, I have been experiencing this for about two weeks now. When I zone into k’aresh i’m fine. When I begin flying to a dungeon/raid and look at the sky my PC will either completely brick, Or I will lose Video signal and my monitor goes black. Sometimes it will come back, Other times requiring a reset.
Running on a 9800x3d/9070xt.
This is the ONLY game I am experiencing issues with. I am running on a oddysey G9 49" UW.
Was having an issue at 240hz with a black screen randomly and fixed it by upgrading my HDMI Cable. I still went down to 120hz however. So the cable shouldn’t be the issue. Especially with my PC completely freezing.
I have re downloaded wow as well, Thinking something might be corrupt. Still happening.
Anyone else running into this? Happening on the last 3 most recent AMD drivers.
It is recommended to turn off the setting called “Optional GPU Features”.
Why Disabling Helps in K’aresh
WoW’s shaders in K’aresh are heavy (lots of particle, shadow, and lighting work).
If AMD’s driver tries to apply an extra “overlay” (like Enhanced Sync, Boost, etc.), the GPU might stall just long enough for Windows’ TDR (Timeout Detection & Recovery) system to say “driver’s hung” → driver timeout.
Turning off these optional features means the GPU is only doing what the game itself asks, without driver-side tweaks getting in the way.
Some GPU’s are very likely running out of VRam. High settings along with hi resolutions could very well cause the GPU to run out of VRam while technically it can share your computers ram have not seen a game yet that when all the vram is used, did not crash. My son upgraded from 1440p to 4K and the game kept crashing. Did all the basic trouble shooting spent a day thinking about what could cause it. Remembered back to the 3 gig 1060’s that where constantly crashing in wow. So I checked his vram usage sure enough at 4K and as high as he had his settings it was capping his VRam on some boss fights. Set the computer back to 1440P on his 4K display and the crashes stopped. VRam usage never capped after that.
True high vram usage can be an issue but with WoW it is still rated at 4GB vram on the product page. That said, my laptop has a 5600M gpu… with only 6GB vram, I did have crashes in K’aresh but applying what I said above has fixed it up pretty good even for my old gpu lol.
Plus you have to keep in mind the topic at hand being discussed here. It is happening in K’aresh and the new areas; not the older content.
New areas use more VRam. The recommended VRam is 8 and honestly with 8 gb it’s likely to cap your VRam at higher resolutions and setting. Recommended does not mean you can max the settings and still be ok. While the minimum is 3 gb. With 3 to 6 gigs setting the settings above the lower end is going to be a problem. Running at the resolution and settings I do. I run an average of 12 GB(with peaks well above 12 GB) in the new areas. and 8 in the newer older content. And 4 in old content.
